The women’s wing of the National Petroleum Development Company’s Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, yesterday, called on Nigerian women to collectively seek solution to issues affecting women globally.
Chairperson and General Manager, Support Services, NPDC, Mrs. Ann Olumide, made the call in Benin while speaking on the theme: Press for progress to mark the 2018 International Women’s Day celebration.
Olumide noted that the International Women’s Day as the name implies, is dedicated to celebrating womanhood, their social, political, cultural, economic achievements and their significant contributions to the society adding that the day also emphasizes the importance of gender equality in the country.
Mrs. Olumide represented by Mrs. Rashidat Rotimi, Manager, Seplat Joint Venture, NPDC said the imperativeness of pressing for progress cannot be overemphasized because despite the progress that women all over the world have made in the fight for parity and social equity, there are still a lot grounds to be covered.
She lamented that the recently released World Economic Forum’s 2017 Global Gender Gap Report showed that gender parity is over 100 years away.
The chairperson while stating that several factors are militating against the women in the society said they can surmount all odds and be what they are aspired to be.
She admonished them not to let their unpleasant memories or setbacks derail them from achieving their set goals and objectives but should serve as springboards in making themselves and the nation great again.
“There is no gain saying that several factors militate against the women in our society but we can surmount all odds and be what we aspire to be.
“We should not let unpleasant memories or setbacks derail us from achieving our goals and objectives.
“So my dear women, let us press forward until our desire for parity is achieved”, she said
