NSE Ikeja branch donates N250,000 endowment fund to YABATECH

The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Ikeja branch on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 visited Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) to present a cheque award of N250,000 to the College for the development of academic in the institution.

The yearly fund instituted in memory of late Engr. Akinsanya Oludaiye, distinguished alumnus in collaboration with his family is for the best graduating student in electrical engineering.

The NSE Team led by its Chairman, Engr. (Mrs) Funmilade Akingbagbohun disclosed that the visit to the College is to see how to close the huge gap between the classroom and the industry, so that students can fit into the industry immediately after graduation. .
“It became worrisome for us as Engineers to see newly graduates not adapting to the industry, and this sad development made us therefore to come up with mentorship, internship programme and endowment fund for the students.

The two daughters of late Engr. Oludaiye have put together endowment fund not only for Yabatech students but for the best student of Electrical Engineering every year from now in remembrance of their father, and the award will be presented in January 25, being the birthday of the late Engineer.”
The president of NSE, Ikeja Branch, Engr Mrs Akingbagbohun is an alumnus of the College.

She graduated in 1996. She disclosed with excitement that the foundation she got from Yabatech is what had nutured her to what she is today. She expressed gratitude to the institution for grooming her and people like Oludaiye and others to become exemplary engineers. She thanked the Rector, Engr. Obafemi Omokungbe and his team for putting the College back to its rightful place.

In his response, the Rector thanked NSE, ikeja branch for the good gesture. He intimated the team about the College N50billion endowment fund set up to take care of the huge needs of the institution which is in dare need of funds because government alone cannot do it. He later appreciated the Oludaiye’s family for the initiative to write the name of their father in gold.
“Concerning bridging the gap between the classroom and the industry, Yabatech has already taken a giant step by having a partnership with a firm in United Kingdom called Field-Ready, and the National Board of Technical Education (NBTE) has approved it, and it will take effect as soon as COVID-19 issue fizzles out”.

He said that Yabatech has the culture of producing qualitative graduates that are making waves in the industry, the two branches of NSE in Lagos are being headed by Yabatech product, and many more like that.
