The news of the demise of the Benin Monarch, HRM, Oba Erediauwa was announced when the Iyase of Benin kingdom, Chief Sam Igbe broke the traditional native chalk. The traditional breaking of the native chalk, symbolizes the reuniting of the Oba with his ancestors.
According to the press release issued by the Iyase of Benin Kingdom reads thus: Osorhue burun. Oba Erediauwa of Benin kingdom, the prince Of peace, Ebo, Ayemwirhe, Emini mini mini, has reunited with his ancestors. May he find perfect peace with God. Amen.
According to Chief Omon Osagie Utete negiabi, he said the king will be reincarnated because there has been no kings as good as him.
Also, chief Arala of Benin kingdom, Prince S.B. Omo Lawal Osula said the Benins are mourning. He said the late king has only been the king who has served in the federal civil service as a permanent secretary.
Following the announcement of his reunion with his ancestors, markets in Benin have been ordered to be shut down till further notice while the traditional chiefs with several beads can only be allowed to wear only one. All traditional rites will be continued.
Reacting to the news of the departure of her father, the first daughter of the monarch, princess Teresa Erediauwa asked rhetorically that how would you feel if you lose your father? She made the statement with tears well welled up in her eyes.
Also speaking about his departure of the reverend monarch, business mogul, captain Hosa Okunbo described him as true father who held the tradition and value system of the Benin kingdom.
