Obaseki Makes U-Turn Over Oshiomhole

BENIN – It was a sight to behold at the 2023 Alaghodaro Investment Summit in Benin City as Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki gave kudos to his predecessor, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, for his contributions to the development of the state and for making him his successor.

Governor Obaseki had before now, been antagonistic to his predecessor, now Senator, representing Edo North in the National Assembly, following a face-off with him ahead of the 2020 Edo gubernatorial election, where Obaseki emerged victorious for a second term as governor against Oshiomhole-backed Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

Obaseki Makes U-Turn Over Oshiomhole

While it was clear that Oshiomhole was instrumental to his emergence in his first term as governor in 2016 under the All Progressive Congress (APC), Obaseki in November 2019 told a gathering of APC members in the state capital that the former labour leader did not contribute to making him governor.

According to Obaseki, “Nobody, but God made me governor of Edo State.

“I am not an ungrateful person. No one made me governor. I became governor by God’s grace, with the support of many other people.

“If God had said I would not be governor, no way would I have been a governor. It is wrong for someone to say he made me governor,” he told the gathering then.

However, four years after, at the ongoing economic summit, Obaseki made a u-turn, praising Oshiomhole for making it ‘possible’ for him to emerge governor, to the surprise of many.

Oshiomhole, who was present at the summit alongside former Governors John Odigie-Oyegun and Chief Lucky Igbinedion, was presented with an award by the governor.

“As governor of Edo state, you made it possible for me to become the governor of Edo state.

“If you did not, I will not be here tonight… I will forever be grateful to you,” Obaseki told Oshiomhole while presenting him with the award

Defamation: Halima Abubakar sues AGN President, Emeka Rollas
…seeks N3billion damages

Popular actress and philanthropist, Halima Abubakar has taken legal action against the national president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) Emeka Rollas.

Recall that on 17 October, 2024, Rollas released a statement on his social media handle, purportedly claiming that Abubakar has been suspended indefinitely from the AGN. The statement claimed that Abubakar was “behind the most slandering information on members (AGN) especially news of extra marital affairs linked with highly placed individuals in the society which emanates from the industry…”

Halima Abubakar said she was baffled by the allegations because she never received any calls or questions from AGN until she saw the news of her purported suspension on social media.

Meanwhile, in response, the solicitors to Abubakar, P.D. Pius & Associates in a letter dated 20 October, 2024, noted that the false narrative by Emeka Rollas was “to deliberately paint Abubakar in a bad light, cast aspersions on her, denigrate her and stir up social opprobrium against her.”

“You are well aware that our client has been battling with her health for years and despite professional relationship, you chose this delicate moment of recovery for our client to push your negative and false narrative about our client in order to arrest her health recovery process, cause her emotional and psychological pain and damage her reputation before right thinking members of the society.

“You should immediately takedown the publication and tender an unreserved public apology to our client via your Instagram page. Cease and desist from any further false publication against our client. Pay the N3 billion to our client for damaging her reputation.

“Note that unless you comply with the above demands within 7 days, we have our client’s instructions to take appropriate legal action against you.”

Also, in responding, the Interior Minister said the report would not be swept under the carpet as all those indicted would be made to face the full wrath of the law.

Admitting that Bobrisky was arrested, yesterday at the Seme Border while trying to flee the country, Service Public Relations Officer SPRO, Kenneth Udo said the cross-dresser is a “person of interest.”

He said; “In keeping with its commitment to securing the borders, NIS intercepted Okuneye otherwise known as Bobrisky at the Seme Border over an attempt to exit the country.

Otse had been invited to answer questions over the viral leaked audio recordings in which Bobrisky allegedly admitted to bribing officials of the prisons, to avoid imprisonment.

The recordings also implicated Bobrisky in a money laundering case that was allegedly dropped by the EFCC.

“Bobrisky was arrested this morning at the Seme border while trying to enter the Benin Republic to escape the current investigation by the House of Reps.

“He is allegedly being held by Nigerian immigration. Let’s wait for Bob to debunk this,” Otse said.
