OFFICIAL NOTICE: MASSIVE PROTEST AGAINST IBEDC IN EDE, OSUN STATE

OFFICIAL NOTICE: MASSIVE PROTEST AGAINST IBEDC IN EDE, OSUN STATE

The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS)—the umbrella body representing all students in Polytechnics, Monotechnics, Colleges of Agriculture, Colleges of Health Technology, and allied institutions across Nigeria—hereby declares a massive protest against the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) over its persistent failure to provide stable electricity to the people of Ede, Osun State.

For over seven (7) months, the people of Ede have been subjected to extreme hardship, receiving barely 30 minutes of electricity every three (3) days. Despite this, IBEDC has increased electricity tariffs more than three times in recent months without any improvement in service. This is an act of oppression, economic sabotage, and a direct attack on students and residents who depend on electricity for their education, businesses, and daily survival.

NAPS, as the voice of over 28.1 million students, will not stand by while the people of Ede suffer from unjust electricity policies. It is disgraceful that IBEDC, an institution meant to facilitate economic growth, is instead worsening the hardships faced by students and the general public.

CALL TO ACTION
We invite all comrades, students, and concerned citizens from across Nigeria to join us in a massive protest on:

📅 Date: Thursday, 14th January 2025
📍 Venue: Ede, Osun State

Furthermore, if IBEDC fails to address this injustice, we shall relocate our hostels to IBEDC’s head office starting Tuesday next week, until our demands are met. Protesters are advised to come along with their Student ID Cards, mats, and cooking items, as we are fully prepared to sustain this struggle.

OUR DEMANDS
1️⃣ Immediate restoration of stable electricity in Ede.
2️⃣ A halt to the unjustified increase in electricity tariffs.
3️⃣ A transparent and public dialogue with IBEDC management to resolve this crisis.

As peace-loving citizens, we remain open to discussions before the protest date. However, if no action is taken, IBEDC will be declared persona non grata in Ede and Osun State at large.

ALUTA CONTINUA… VICTORIA ASCERTA!
Signed:
Comrade Adeniji Boluwaji Temitope
NAPS Senate President
