Ibikunle Amosun’s bid to impose his candidate in Ogun State gubernatorial election suffered a huge setback yesterday when ten political parties in Ogun State on Wednesday rejected the reported endorsement of the governorship candidate of the Allied People’s Movement in the state, Abdulkabir Akinlade, by the state chapter of the Intra-Party Advisory Council in the state.
The parties, under the aegis of Political Parties Chairmen Forum, Ogun State chapter, made their position known while addressing journalists in Abeokuta, the state capital.
The parties that opposed the endorsement include All Blending Party; People’s Progressives Party; Advance Congress of Democrats; Democratic People’s Congress and Progressives People’s Alliance .
Others are Better Nigerian People’s Party; Freedom and Justice Party; National Action Congress; National Democratic Liberty Party and Masses Movement of Nigeria.
The forum’s spokesperson, Olusegun Olufemi, refuted the media report that 60 political parties had adopted Akinlade, a preferred governorship candidate of the state governor, Ibikunle Amosun.
The IPAC, led by its state chairman, Abayomi Arabambi, had last week reported to have led 60 political parties to endorse Akinlade during the APM’s rally held in Abeokuta.
But the forum, which claims not to be a parallel body to IPAC, said there was no time such action was collectively discussed by members.
Olufemi said, “We reject in totality the adoption of any governorship candidate.”
“We urge members of the public to disregard the purported adoption of any political party candidate.”
