PRESS STATEMENT
The Ogun State government regrets the unfortunate loss of life of a truck ‘motor boy’ allegedly caused by actions of truck drivers and the officials of Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE).
The Government commiserates with the family of the deceased over the unfortunate incident and assures the family and the public that every step will be taken to avoid a recurrence of this kind of incident in Ogun State.
As a demonstration of the governments unwavering commitment to ensuring justice at all times, it has directed the State Police Command to commence immediate investigation into the unfortunate incident with a view to unraveling the circumstances that led to it, just as members of the affected TRACE Patrol Team are already being subjected to administrative trial.
The public should further note that the Ogun State Government remains committed to ensuring the safety of lives and properties of all residents and visitors in the State in all locations they find themselves including the roads.
To this end, this State continually initiates policies and programmes to exhibit this commitment, the latest of which is setting up a taskforce to ensure that all containers are properly latched and violators are appropriately sanctioned.
Government, however, wishes to remind all that destruction of public utilities as a way of protest does no one no good, and therefore condemns, in strong terms, the wanton destruction of government facilities at the TRACE office in Ibara, which was put in place with tax payers money.
As a result, we wish to enjoin Trade Unions to desist from taking the laws into their hands under any disguise, but rather explore laid down legal avenues of registering grievances towards development.
Signed:
Engr. Gbenga Dairo
Honourable Commissioner for Transportation.
