“OLUBUNMI ETTEH WAS UNNECESSARY PERSECUTED”.

A former Speaker of the House of representatives, in person of Rt Hon Yakubu Dogara has come out to clarify issues as regards the allegation levied on Honourable Patricia Olubunmi Etteh the Tenth speaker of the House of Representatives in 2007 over allegation of corruption as regards illegally awarding contract for the renovation of the speakers house.
The contract which was going to the tune of Six Hundred Million naira was awarded by the then speaker. However, there were allegations that the speaker did not follow due process in the award of the contract. An allegation Hon Dogara termed as political persecution on Hon Etteh.
Dogara made this know while celebrating Hon Etteh at a birthday celebration organized by her friends.
Dogara who in his words said, he was opportuned to know what transpired that time, added that the contract then, was six hundred million naira unfortunately when the house was renovated it doubled the price earlier stated. He said Hon Etteh was doing her job deligently.
Meanwhile, it would be recalled that Hon Olubunmi’s tenure as the speaker of the House, was one of the shortest as it was between June and October 2007, but was cut short by politically motivated accusations.
However over a decade after that incident, Hon Yakubu Dogara has come out to clarify the allegations stating that it was a persecution that was motivated politically, stating that Hon Etteh was innocent.
He therefore prayed for Hon Etteh, that God will grant her all her desires while admonishing her to keep doing what she knows best.
Meanwhile, present at the event were notable personalities, such as Sen Pius Anyim, Hon Mulikat Adeola, Hon Rotimi Makinde, Hon Harrison Ibekwe and many others.
In her appreciation the fomer speaker thanked all friends and well wishers who attended the party, while assuring them that she will continue to work and do her best to contribute to humanity.
