The outgoing governor of Taraba state, Darius Ishaku may not be remembered for anything good with some of his actions lately.
Taraba state is currently in a deep crisis that has led to the death of some people due to the selfishness and greediness of Governor Darius Ishaku, all because he wants to have some control of the state even after handing over power to the incoming governor, Agbu Kefas.
It’s really an unfortunate thing that Nigerian politicians don’t think about the future before making some moves, they don’t think about what they want to be remembered for, all they are concerned with is how to retain power for their selfish purposes. Darius Ishaku is a typical Nigerian politician and one of the bad eggs the country has.
At least one person is killed and several others sustain injuries in Dugwer village in Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State, following an alleged attempt by the state Governor Darius Ishaku, through the Chief of Jibu (Kuru Jibu), HRH Alhaji Abubakar Mahmood Adamu to grab the ancestral land belonging the people of the area.
Residents revealed that trouble started many months ago, over a large portion of land belonging to the Tiv people along the Bali -Takum federal highway in which Governor Ishaku had indicated interest to take over.
It was gathered that following Governor Ishaku’s alleged interest in the land, the Kuru Jibu, Alhaji Abubakar Mahmood Adamu had approached the leaders of the community that the Executive Governor of the State was interested in the land, urging them to vacate to a destination that they may be directed to.
It was also gathered that while the community was waiting for compensation and the new land to relocate, armed local vigilantes numbering over 60, allegedly under the instruction of the Kuru Jibu, stormed the community on Monday forcing the people out of the land.
The situation, according to residents, led to the killing of 42-year-old Terwase Ayem, while several others sustained various degrees of injury.
A village head, Zaki Ternenge, told The Sun Newspapers on phone that the attackers also looted agricultural produce and other valuable belongings to the people of the community worth Millions of Naira.
This is just one out of the many atrocities of the outgoing governor to destabilize Taraba state, probably to make the state ungovernable for the incoming governor. There have also been protests in the state following the governor’s attempt to install some traditional rulers despite a court order restraining him from doing so.
Even in the PDP chapter in Taraba, the governor has singlehandedly thrown the party into internal crisis following his attempt to impose a new state chairman after an illegal removal of the acting chairman, Hon Inuwa Bakari.
It’s a sad situation in Taraba and one can only be surprised at how Governor Darius Ishaku is causing more damage to his legacy. It’s just barely seven weeks to handing over and the best thing the governor can do for himself is to correct his wrongs and ensure a peaceful handing over but his actions portray a different thing. No doubt, if he continues this way, posterity will never be kind to him.
