A call has gone to the authority of the Nigerian Customs Service to exercise sufficient restraint in the discharge of its customs and border protection mandate. This is contained in a statement issued today in Abeokuta by Rt Hon Remmy Hazzan, the Spokesperson to the Governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Prince Dapo Abiodun.
The statement reads, “As much as I reckon that the Nigerian Customs Service has a constitutional mandate on customs related matters as well as to secure our borders, necessary restraint must be exercised in the discharge of this mandate, especially as touching on the safety of lives and property, for which government also has a constitutional mandate”.
Prince Dapo Abiodun was quoted to have also said “I am pained by the reported loss of lives in the avoidable melee, which as at the last count is not less than 4, (with the burial of 3 already carried out) and several others reportedly injured. Beheading is never an acceptable countermeasure to a headache ailment.”
The Governorship hopeful commiserate with the Olu of Owode-Yewa, Oba Matthew Akindele and his Council of Chiefs, as well as the good people of Owode-Yewa over the unfortunate situation. The statement concluded.
