The Ogun State governorship candidate of Unity Party of Nigeria, (UPN ) in 2015 general elections, Otunba Rotimi Paseda has lamented the absence of late Awolowo’s Matriarch, Chief (Mrs.) Hannah Idowu Dideolu in Nigeria’s political development, describing it as an “irreplaceable loss”.
He said her death came at a time Nigeria democracy is witnessing transformational development, stressing that her political ideology and constant struggle for a just, progressive, humane society for the common man and liberation of Nigerians would be greatly missed.
Paseda who spoke on Wednesday to journalists after the Church service held at Our Saviour of Anglican Church, Ikenne, Ogun state enjoined all political leaders in the South West region of the country to embrace and support the party (UPN ) left behind by late Obafemi Awolowo.
He emphasized that, the Awolowo’s legacies could be best immortalize and preserved when a greater percentage of Nigeria commoners have genuine access to good and qualitative life as obtained in the civilized societies of the world.
He explained that, the quest to attain equitable, just and acceptable socio-economic growth of the nation, is a struggle Nigerians and political leaders must strive to achieve.
“How can we best described the woman of inestimable as posited by late Chief Jeremiah Obafemi Awolowo. Mama’s death came at a time Nigeria’s democracy is experiencing transformation progression.
“For a legend with constant struggle for a just, progressive, humane society for the common man, could be safely posited that papa Awolowo’s description of his wife as jewel of inestimable value was borne out of his deep conviction of what mama HID stood for in his life, political ideology and the entire struggle for liberation of the commoners.
“Mama had demonstrated, in an unmistakeable term, that she was a pillar of support, comfort, endurance and succour, particularly in the emancipation of the downtrodden, which formed the core of papa’s social welfare programmes.
“To further sustain the legacy and party left behind by the late Sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, all political leaders in South West should team up and uplift his political party, UPN as the region’s political affiliate”, the Omu-Ijebu prince concluded
Otunba Paseda however assured Nigerians that the leadership of UPN in Nigeria would continue to maintain the party structure and core values of UPN as encapsulated in the cardinal programmes of the party.
