Policemen from the Zone 12 Command of the Nigeria Police Force say they have arrested one of the wanted leaders of the extremist Boko Haram sect, Muhammed Usman, who was declared wanted by the Nigerian Army recently.
In a statement sent on Thursday, Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 12, Tunde Ogunsakin, said the arrest of the suspect was a result of the investigative and surveillance activities he supervised.
“The suspect was arrested by police detectives attached to Borno State Police Command, who were on intensive cordon and search operation for members and leaders of the terror group in all parts of Maiduguri.
“The suspect was arrested on the 15/11/2015 and handed over to the headquarters of 7 Division of the Nigerian Army for further investigation while efforts are being intensified to track down and apprehend other suspects (who are) still at large.
“However, it is pertinent to emphasize here that the breakthrough in the arrest of the suspect was as a result of the supports of the well –meaning members of the public, who as partners in progress with the Nigeria Police Force, share our desires and aspirations to enable a safe and secure environment for all citizens.
The AIG therefore urged members of the public not to relent in providing useful information that would assist the police in protecting lives and property in the zone and the nation at large.
