Police in Lagos have nabbed one Rasak Oyakunle alias Akeregun, who have allegedly confessed to be the brain behind the Abule-Egba petroleum pipeline fire in Lagos last December.
Also one of wanted suspects declared wanted by the Police as the ring leader of the pipeline vandals, Hon (Amb) Adedipo Dauda Ewenla was arrested.
They were paraded alongside four others who were in custody: Abdulazeez Agbola, 29 alias Biggy, Akin Ayansola, 44, alias Babalati, Kazeem 50, alias Aladija and Saheed Isiola 36, alias Obama.
The Police Commissioner, Edgal Imohimi, said the arrest of the suspected vandals followed the effort of State Anti Robbery Squad, SARS, who swung into action by picking up some pieces of evidence at the crime scene for analysis.
This, they informed, led to the arrest of Rasak Oyakunle alias Akeregun the owner of an electric generator repairing workshop situated right on the spot where the ruptured pipeline was laid.
Edgal further said during police investigations that the said suspect confessed that the location of the workshop on the petroleum pipeline was to enable them siphon fuel undetected.Recall that there was a fire outbreak at Isopako Awori, Abule-Egba area of Lagos where fire emanated from NNPC pipeline reportedly caused by deliberate actions of vandals in their bid to siphon Premium Motor Spirit, PMS also called Petrol from the broken pipe.The inferno that followed destroyed about 100 houses and 77 vehicles worth several millions of Naira.
