Police, Shiites clash again in Abuja

Police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) today again clashed with members of Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) also known as Shiites in Abuja. The group was protesting the prolonged detention of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

The protesters during the clash with the security agents in Maitama area of Abuja, threw stones and other objects, causing damage to cars and buildings in the area. The police officers teargassed the protesters in order to disperse them.

The protesters had stormed the National Communications Commission (NCC) to stage a peaceful protest.

Recall that last week, a similar clash between the police officers and the Shiite members left some members of the group dead.
