Some policemen from Area H Division in Lagos have illegally detained two yet-to-be-identified young Nigerians after they refused to be extorted by the officers.
The two men and one other were illegally arrested by the officers on Sunday at Akintan Street, Mascara, Ketu area of Lagos State.
Despite not seeing anything incriminating on them, the trio were asked to pay N50,000 each.
While the two arrested young men refused to pay, the third person begged the officer and negotiated to pay N20,000, which they collected and proceeded to release him.
According to reports, the young men were assaulted, handcuffed and treated by the policemen like criminals.
“The police are now claiming that they found the boys with Indian hemp but that’s a lie. Nothing was found on those guys’ hands,” an eyewitness told reporters on Sunday.
