Barely two days of President Muhammadu Buhari’s pronouncement of a temporary lifting of the Covid ’19 lockdown, bank customers have been spotted storming their various financial institutions for different transaction’s.
Since the partial resumption of work within a state on Monday the 4th of May, thousands of people have taken time out of their schedule to visit their banks and if we should judge by information at our disposal, majority of the crowds seen in the premises of these banks are there for withdrawals.
The reason for this may not be far fetched, people are aware that the presidency might decide to add another number of weeks to the lockdown towards the weekend and to avoid the palpable hunger that occurred during the first stage of lockdown, the people have to go to their banks and withdraw their money. However, this is applicable to those without ATM cards. Presently, the corona virus disease aka Covid is still ravaging the world, Nigeria not excluded killing a lot of people on daily basis and thus may prompt the federal government to add to the stay at home order. Moreover, we gathered that men of the Nigeria police and other security agencies to ensure absolute orderliness and checkmate alleged fraud being perpetrated in some banks where workers are reportedly demanding money before being attended to. This is broad day light robbery on innocent bank’s customers.
