The Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Dr Samuel Uche, has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately replace the Service Chiefs with a view to reinvigorating the security architecture in the country.
He noted that the nation needs new ideas to fight the security challenges considering that security lapses were indications that they are overwhelmed by the situation.
Prelate Uche made the remarks on Sunday during the consecration and investiture of Bishops and also the induction of Archdiocesan lay Presidents and Diocesan lay Presidents.
He noted that the situation was getting worse on daily basis. “The Chief security officer has done his best, I pray God Almighty grant him wisdom to tackle the security challenges in the country.
Speaking further, “we need new ideas; there is no need going to another country to get security personnel. Involve local securities and I believe we would overcome the situation.
“President Buhari should let the Service Chiefs go on one year sabbatical leave so that he can engage fresh people with fresh ideas. He shouldn’t be afraid of whether they will stage a coup against him, as nobody will stage a coup. No reasonable Nigerian will want to have a coup; anybody that stages a coup would be stoned to death,” the Prelate reiterated.
