The South West Zonal National President of Women for Equity and Fairness Organisation of Nigeria (WEFON), Alhaja Nourat Babs-Olorunkemi has called on Adamawa State Governor Jibrilla Bindow to replace the newly appointed male Commissioner for Women Affairs with a female.
Babs-Olurunkemi said the Governor will face the wrought of Nigeria women as well as Africa women if he does not stop the gender discrimination posture.
She said the Governor has either done it to get cheap publicity or he is probably out of tune with the happenings in the world where women are being appointed into key positions.
She advised the Governor to emulate the former state Governor Nyako who gave women seven commissionership slots and also advised him not to drag the state backward or turn it into gender discrimination state.
“I call on all Nigeria women to rise against this conduct, because Adamawa is a gender friendly state which the Governor wants to change. We must resist all forms of discrimination whether gender or religious one.
“How can a state governor in this modern time appoint a man to oversee the affairs of married women, how can he handle women’s issues, he should know that there are a lot of things involved in the Ministry not just the title”, she said
She also called on the state chapter of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) to as a matter of urgency condemn such act and boycott all the Ministry activities.
