Police from the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) of Lagos State Police Command, Panti-Yaba, on Friday, arraigned Prophet David Babalola of Presence Redemption Ministries, for allegedly given false information about his landlord to the police.
The Prophet whose church is located at 13, Folorunsho Street, Off Ajayi Road, Aguda-Ogba, Lagos, was alleged to have on November 4, 2015, gave false information against his landlord, one Joseph Agaga.
According to Shokishombolonews we learn that Police further alleged that the Prophet had falsely informed the police that his landlord wanted to forcefully take over where the church was cited from him, the allegation which led to the arrest and detention of his landlord.
However, the police upon conclusion of the investigation, found out the land belong to the landlord, and consequently arrest the Prophet and charged him to court on conduct likely to cause breach of public peace.
The offence according to the prosecutors, Barrister A. Innocent and Inspector Cousin Adams, is contrary to and punishable under section 95(C) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos state of Nigeria, 2011/).
The one count charge against the Prophet reads: “that you Prophet David Babalola, on November 4, 2015, at 13, Folorunsho Street, off Ajayi Road, Aguda-Ogba, in the Lagos magistrial district, did caused one Joseph Agaga ‘M’, to be charged with the offence of threat to your life and property, and conduct likely to cause breach of peace, knowing same to be false, which led to his arrest and detention, and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 95(C), of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 201”.
The Prophet however pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Lawyer to the Prophet, Mr. O. O. Quadri, in canvassing for his bail, told the court the his client is a man of God, and will not evade trial nor tamper with the evidence of the matter if granted bail.
Quadri also volounteer to be the Prophet’s surety.
The prosecutors, though opposed the bail application, but said they are only interested in ensuring that the Prophet attend the trial.
In admitting the Prophet bail, the presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Hellen Omisore, granted bail to him bail in the sum of N200, 000. 00, with one surety.
The surety, according to the Magistrate, must be gainfully employed with Lagos state civil service, and with evidence of three tax payment to the Lagos State government, and to depose to an affidavit of means.
The matter has been adjourned till September 14, for mention.
