Rape,a Criminal offense against humanity – Panelists

Any female who became victim of rape has been advised to report it immediately to the nearest police station to enable doctors take appropriate action to save the victim.

The advise was given by Barrister Clement Osuya who was one of the panelist during Association of Resident Doctors,Lagos university teaching hospital (LUTH),Annual scientific conference and symposium with an important discussion medicine and law a conflux of two diversities with a sub theme: physicians Burnout.

According to him rape victims should not be shy when it occur they should quickly report to the police and then should not take their bath but ensure police and doctor take their pictures which will serve as evidence to help police prosecute the culprit.” a rape is crime against humanity so when it happens to anyone don’t fail to report immediately to the police” he said.

He further stated that those who force female to engage them in sex before giving them employment or money are rapists. So when it happen such case should be reported to the police.

Speaking at the event the president Association of Resident Doctors Lagos university teaching hospital,Dr. Kayode Makinde said the conference present a golden opportunity to discuss and dissect topical issue that affect doctors as health professionals and the society at large.

According to him the conference took a look at medico-legal issue within the health care eco system.

In a interview with our correspondent the president explain that despite they have good working environment there are still many challenges like resources, facilities and most especially most doctors are under pay and most of them received salary late as well as the issue of carrier progression are some of the challenges facing doctors.

Also the Vice President, Dr.Judith Jolayemi lamented the short of doctors and many nurses in hospital.
She explained that as a federal hospital they always experience in flux of number of patient.

She said the conference became timely to resolve age-long dispute between doctors, lawyers and patients so this help all parties to know their limit in doing their job.

Also one of the panelist,Dr. Olayinka Atilola who was also a former vice president of the association urged Doctors to maintain best practice within the limit of the resources in their environment
