Rotimi Makinde Organizes Town Hall Meeting In Ife, Calls For More Women Participation In Politics

*Rotimi Makinde Organizes Town Hall Meeting In Ife, Calls For More Women Participation In Politics*

A former member of the House of Representatives who represented Ife Federal Constituency in the 7th Assembly in Abuja, Hon. Rotimi Makinde has advocated more participation of women in party politics within the Nigerian political space especially for those in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Makinde recently made this disclosure during a townhall meeting involving all women leaders in Ife Federal constituency with the motive to rejig the party (APC), while also adding that encouraging women within a political party was a powerful step towards achieving success.

According to Makinde when women are recognised, uplifted and supported, they bring unique perspectives, skills, and experiences that can revolutionize the party’s trajectory at various levels and organs.

He further pointed out that there was need for an increase in the percentage of women in elective positions owing to achievements being recorded by women in recent times in different endeavors in life

“Empowering and encouraging women within a political party is a powerful step towards achieving success. The reality is that when women are recognised, uplifted and supported, they bring unique perspectives, skills, and experiences that can revolutionize the party’s trajectory. Morn out of good intentions, My hosting of all women leaders of Ife Federal Constituency was born out of the good intention of rejigging our party, APC.

“I also used this opportunity to thank our dear party Chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Eniafe Lawal for his unflinching support and visionary leadership. Honestly, with unity, it can only get better. Let’s remember that empowering women is not just a moral imperative; it’s a strategic advantage for achieving success in politics.

Makinde continued, “Women have a right to engage in civil society, vote in elections, be elected to government office, serve on boards, and make their voices heard in any process that will ultimately affect them, their families, and their communities. Investing in women’s right to political participation is a necessary step to achieving global gender equality and democratic governance.

“Women are professional and competent in their respective field and as such should be respected for their progressive contribution.

“We have the likes of late Dora Akunyili, Oby Ezekwesili, Ngozi Okonjo Iweala amongst others who have made the country proud in their respective leadership positions within and outside the shores of the country,” he said.

“It is worthy to mention that “Iweala is the first woman, first African to be the Director General of World Trade Organization (WTO) and recent developments also revealed that she has even emerged as a sole candidate for a fresh election for another term of four years in WTO. Our women here in Ife too are virtuous full of great potentials that can assist in building capacity and adding value to humanity across.” Makinde stressed.
