Men of the Nigerian police attached to the State Armed Robbery Squad (SARS) and the local vigilance group popularly called Onyabo, late night on Friday, January 13, 2017, stormed hideout of a cult gang during their meeting along Igbogbo-Offin Road and made several arrests.
THE IMPACT gathered that some of the cultists allegedly arrested during the operation are wanted for cases bothering on cult related killings and other crimes.
It was gathered that members of the Black Axe, also called ‘Ake’ from different Ikorodu, Igbogbo, Imota, Ijede, Shagamu and other parts of Lagos and Ogun State numbering over hundred had gathered at the point for initiation of new members before the combined force of the men of the Nigerian police and local vigilance group swoop on them.
An eye witness confirmed to THE IMPACT that following a tip-off , police men on special operation led members of the Onyabo to stormed the meeting point of the suspected cultists and made several arrests.
He further stated that arms and other dangerous weapons were recovered from them and appealed to the traditional council in Ikorodu division, Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) and other interest groups to ensure that the suspects are not allowed to go scotfree and are properly prosecuted.
Our reporter also gathered that the suspected cultists who were first detained at the Ikorodu Police Headquarters, along Igbogbo Road, Ikorodu, has since been transferred to Panti for further investigation.
A senior member of the local vigilance group who spoke with our reporter on phone confirmed the operation. He also reiterated the preparedness of the vigilance group to rid Ikorodu division of cultism.
