Nigerian Biological Safety Association (NiBSA) in cooperation with Sandia National Laboratories (operated by Sandia Corporation, USA) recently organised a Advanced Biorisk Management Workshop for the South West geopolitical Zone of Nigeria at Kakanfo Inn in Ibadan from 17th July to 21st July, 2017. The workshop which was declared opened by the NiBSA President, Mr. Ibiang Livinus was attended by different professionals and skilled facilitators among whom are Associate Professor Abiodun Denloye, NiBSA Vice President, Mrs Stella, NiBSA Secretary and Mr Vincent, NiBSA Tresurer. Among the participant that attended the workshop are: Mr. Babatunde Asenuga, (National Coordinator of Society of Educational Administrators of Nigeria), Dr. John Ochei, (Veteran Medical Lab Scientist, Babcock University), Associate Professor Makinde, Sunday Clement, (Lagos State University) Associate Professor Shittu, Adebayo Osajie, (Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-ife), Pastor Akintaju Felix, (Deputy Director Medical Lab. Services, Ogun State Hospital Management Board), Mr Bajulaiye, Ajayi Albert, (Dean of Student Affairs, Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education), Adebiyi Oludele Emmanuel, (Head, SW-Zone TB Ref. Lab. UCH, Ibadan), and Dr Iwalokun BA, (Head, MB&BT, NIMR, Lagos). The NiBSA president, Mr. Ibiang Livinus welcomed all participants to the Advance Workshop which was a follow up of the Foundation Biorisk Management modules taken last year. The workshop covered key modules in biorisk management which includes Good Laboratory Work Practices, Engineering Controls, Standard Operating Procedures, Decontamination, Waste Management, Risk Communication and Biosecurity. The CEN Workshop Agreement CWA 15793 which was a very important aspect of the Foundation program was also emphasized on during the workshop as well as the small test of change (STOC).
