Abuja – House of Representatives Speaker Yakubu Dogara has ordered an investigation into three members of the house who have found themselves embroiled in a sex scandal.
According to a punch report, the scandal was confirmed by the Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Abdulrazak Namdas, who claims that the visas of the three Reps affected have since been cancelled by the United States Embassy.
The probe allegedly follows a formal complaint laid by US Ambassador to Nigeria, James Entwistle, who claimed that the lawmakers had been accused of attempting rape and soliciting the services of prostitutes while on official assignment in the US in April 2016.
Although Namdas refused to comment on how investigations will be conducted into the matter, he did confirm that a probe has commenced.
“The leadership of the House has commenced its own part of the investigation. When it is concluded, we will brief Nigerians further on this issue,” he said.
The three affected legislators, who were part of a 10-man team, are alleged to have grabbed a housekeeper and attempted to solicit sex from her while having asked a parking attendant at their hotel to solicit prostitutes for them, the brief reports.
The lawmakers have since denied the accusations, with one of them, Terse Gbillah even writing to Entwistle, lamenting the situation and claiming that the accused were not giving fair hearing by the US Embassy.
Gbillah has since threatened to take legal action against the US Embassy, Entwistle and the Marriot Hotel Brand, among others.
