Lately, rape has been on rise in Nigeria and the victims are always minors. It’s so disheartening to hear stories like this.
Police in Lagos have arrested a 37-year-old barber who allegedly raped a seven-year-old primary school pupil in Papa Ajao area of Mushin, Lagos, Tuesday. The victim said she was given a packet of biscuit before the suspect, identified as Adelopo Yusuf, defiled her, saying on arrival from school Tuesday, she met their apartment locked with the whereabouts of her older siblings unknown. Hungry, she then went to Yusuf’s barbing saloon to wait for her siblings, who gave her biscuit and accompanied her to her parents flat, which was still locked. The father of one then laid her on a bench, pulled off her pant and had canal knowledge of her. He cleaned her up with a rag before taking her back to his shop, where she waited until one of her older siblings arrived.
However, the bubble burst after the little girl narrated what transpired between her and Yusuf to her sibling who, thereafter, informed their parents. Yusuf was said to have initially denied, until doctor’s report from Mushin General Hospital confirmed that the girl’s hymen had been broken, signifying that there had been penetration. Consequently, Yusuf was arrested. As at 5p.m. yesterday, the case was said to have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, SCIID, Yaba. Meanwhile, spokesperson for Lagos State Police Command, Dolapo Badmus, a Superintendent, said the case was still being investigated.
