Shuaibu impeachment plot: CRPP berates Edo governor, EDHA against insistence
By Elvis Omoregie
Edo State Chapter of the Coalition of Registered Political Parties (CRPP) has berated Godwin Obaseki, the Edo State governor and members of the state House of Assembly under the leadership of its Speaker, Hon. Blessing Agbebaku for their insistence to impeach the Deputy Governor, Hon. Philip Shaibu despite interventions of religious and political leaders that they should exercise restraint.
In a statement by its Chairman, Dr. Samson Isibor, the CRPP said: “They’re unperturbed, still going ahead to carry out their unpopular move to impeach the Deputy Governor. Most disturbing is the rejection of the Federal High Court summons delivered to the House of Assembly by the Federal High Court bailiff who was harassed and chased out of the assembly by security men on the orders of the leadership of the Edo State House of Assembly.
“It’s quite appalling that the lawmakers that are supposed to honour a court summons should behave arrogantly, harass and chase out a harmless court bailiff discharging his constitutional duty from one of the three arms of government recognized by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The act of the assembly is condemnable.”
Going forth, Dr. Isibor stressed, “we had earlier affirmed the innocence of the Deputy Governor of any accusation levelled against him, rather it was witch hunting and political victimization of the highest order by Governor Obaseki because his deputy dare come out to exercise his constitutional right to be voted for.
“As we have said earlier nobody have the right to stop anybody from exercising constitutional right to participate in any election. Obaseki have no right to stop his deputy to vote or be voted for.”
In conclusion, the CRPP submitted that “insecurity is on the high side, Fulani herdsmen kidnap on daily basis, high cost of living is becoming unbearable while Governor Obaseki is lackadaisical about it. What we want in Edo State is food not selfish impeachment.”
