Smash Mouth singer Steve Harwell is being cared for in a hospice and has “only about a week left to live”. “Steve is still with us, but unfortunately only for a short time,” his manager Robert Hayes told USA Today and other media. “He is being cared for by his fiancée and hospice care.”
The 56-year-old singer of the rock band was treated in hospital for liver complications. Harwell was an alcoholic and struggled with many other health problems. In 2013, he was diagnosed with heart disease and subsequently acute Wernicke encephalopathy, which affected his memory and speech.
Smash Mouth was formed in 1994 and is best known for its 1999 song “All-Star,” which was used in the film Shrek, among others.
In 2021, Harwell retired from the music business. “I tried so hard to overcome my physical and mental problems and play in front of you one last time, but I just wasn’t up to it,” he told the band’s fans
