Love of money they say is the root of all evil. This aptly described the tragic story of two siblings fighting over 500 naira.
Sadly, Shasha police divisional in Lagos has declared a 25-year-old suspect Fortune Nkeuegbu wanted for allegedly stabbing his younger brother, Chinaza, to death over N500.
The incident happened on Sunday morning at no 2, Okanla Street, Orisunbare Shasha of Lagos metropolis where they reside with their parents .
Sahara weekly reporter learnt that an argument ensued between the siblings shortly after their parents dropped N500 as transport fare for them to meet them in church. .
It was gathered that their father Mr Alfred Nkeuegbu, is a pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Province 64, Ejigbo. He dropped money for them as transport since his car could not take every members of the family to church.
The suspect made attempt to collect the money from the victim since they could not split the N500 but the younger one refused to release the note. They dabbled into hot argument which led to a fight and in the process, the suspect break glasses and stabbed the victim in the throat region.
The suspect immediately rushed the victim to nearby hospital but he later gave up the ghost as a result of much bleeding.
According to sources, their parents were contacted over the unfortunate incident but the elder brother had already fled before their arrival.
Confirming the incident ,police spokesman Bala Elkana, a Deputy Superintendent (DSP) said the case was reported at the Shasha division by their father.
“At about 2:45 pm on Sunday, a case of murder was reported at Shasha Police Station by their father that two brothers had understanding over N500 he dropped for them for transport before he left the house to church around 8:25 am because his vehicle could not carry everyone to the church. “We were about to start prayer in the church when I received a call that there was serious fight between my children at home over the transportation I dropped for them. I quickly rushed down to the house. I was told that my elder son stabbed his younger brother to death.
The Commissioner of Police Hakeem Odumosu has directed the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Yaba to take over the case and ensure that the suspect is apprehended.
