Olanrewaju’s academic journey began with a BEng in Electrical Engineering from the University of Ilorin, where he laid the foundational knowledge for his future endeavors in telecommunications. His pursuit of excellence led him to obtain an MSc in Project Management from Robert Gordon University in Scotland, equipping him with the skills necessary to manage complex projects in the telecom sector. Currently, he is advancing his expertise by pursuing a PhD in Business Administration and Marketing at Babcock University, Nigeria.

In addition to his formal education, Olanrewaju has honed his leadership skills through courses at Lagos Business School (LBS) and other reputable institutions. His extensive certifications include Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute, Scrum Master Certified (SMC) and Scrum Product Owner Certified (SPOC) from Scrum Study MK, and Certified ScrumMaster® (CSM®) from Scrum Alliance. He has also earned advanced agile and lean practices certifications from renowned institutions, as well as a Generative AI Overview for Project Managers certification from the Project Management Institute, showcasing his commitment to technological advancements.

Pioneering Contributions to Telecommunications

Olanrewaju’s career is marked by significant contributions to the growth of telecommunications in Nigeria, particularly in the realm of radio frequency (RF) engineering. His pioneering work has spanned the evolution from 2G to 5G technologies, involving network modernization, optimization, and strategic innovation.

At Airtel Nigeria, where he currently serves as the Head of RAN Planning, Olanrewaju has been instrumental in developing short and long-term network capacity plans to accommodate the company’s growth projections. He supports the network expansion strategy by providing field-sensitive feedback and evaluating local and global telecommunications trends to devise strategies that safeguard the architecture and integrity of the access network. His role encompasses end-to-end network capacity planning, monitoring network utilization trends, and ensuring effective network capacity enhancements.

From 2008 to 2013, Olanrewaju was the Manager of Network Design & Planning at Airtel Nigeria, where he played a crucial role in supporting the network expansion strategy and optimizing network capacity. Prior to this, he served as Manager of RF Planning and Optimization at MTN Communications Ltd from 2003 to 2007. In this role, he project-managed the design and implementation of the radio network, ensuring sufficient capacity to support marketing forecasts and conforming to MTNN KPIs.

Olanrewaju’s early career at Starcomms as the RF Planning & Optimization Lead from 2001 to 2003 saw him planning and designing the Lagos and Northern Nigeria CDMA network. His responsibilities included evaluating and approving radio base station sites, conducting interference analysis, system optimization, and preparing RF propagation predictions using specialized software.
