The true story behind MBAISE 14th convention shutdown

The true story behind MBAISE 14th convention shutdown*

Contrary to what has been reported and shown in videos about the cancellation of the 14th Mbaise 2023 convention, stakeholders and concerned members have disclosed the truth.

Rowland Okorie, the event manager and winner of the Classic Africa Merit Award, who was also present, praised the event as excellent, calling it a well-organized convention that will live on in the memories of those who attended, saying, “High Chief SOS Echendu, Chief Alozie Ezeji Aguwa, and his members will forever be remembered in history as heroes of Mbaise.” If the Imo state run in the upcoming election, I believe High Chief SOS Echedu and Chief Alozie Aguwa should be consulted. The biggest of them all was the 2023 convention. Given that all promises were kept, I refer to it as a hybrid of under promise and over deliver.”

The true story behind MBAISE 14th convention shutdown*

On what caused the shutdown, he said “It turned out to be a simple quarrel between two women that subsequently escalated to the cops taking the chance to shine and overzealously carry out their duty. America is the best country in the world and treats everyone equally, regardless of race, economic status, or wealth. At first, we believed that by going as far as to call off the event based on an excessive justification other than the reason the police were invited, it was disrespectful to an entire race and the local elders.”

He also said “The unpleasant picture that appears to be a bad Nollywood script began when a disgruntled black American woman got angry because she couldn’t use the hotel elevator. The two women were at each other’s throats, cursing and screaming at the top of their lungs, threatening to rain down fire and brimstone. She had poured her rage on a white elderly woman who was at that moment angry at the crowd and everything black around her. The hotel’s management phoned the police out of fear after the young woman called the elderly woman many derogatory things. When the police arrived on the scene, they shutdown the place and they did so out of fear without waiting to determine the true nature of the situation. The reason for shutting down was explained. Health hazard and combustible risk because of the crowd was stated.”

“Although mature Mbaise elders attributed it to culture clash being a very simple miscommunication in the way one race sees the other because the music, the attires and the sound being made by people at the convention which for themselves was just fun, merrymaking and networking, but it was just too much for the whites who have never seen such level of affluence, such level of enjoyment, Such level of feverish joy and excitement. Convention is voted to be hosted in NC next year.”

“What we see as fun and progress may be seen as madness to another tribe or race. Be that as it may, culture clash or not a few radical and hot headed mbasie lawyers have decided to take the matter to court faulting the management of Westin Hotel , Texas as to why they collected all their money for hall rent, food etc wait for the event to start and shut it down. They vowed to make an example out of both the Police and the hotel so as to make the matter see the light of day in court.”

Buttressing his point, the chief executive officer of Equity Concept entertainment Rowland Okorie who had just finished the presentation of Project NWAFOR Igbo said “The event was a massive success but had not come to an end yet but the aim of the gathering had been achieved. For the organizers to have mentioned project NWAFOR Igbo on that day and accepted by the entire mbaise people in the USA, then what more could be greater?

He emphasized that “Police are fond of doing things like this. But now it’s not a matter of Black Lives Matter. It’s a case of NDIGBO LIVES MATTERS. Racism played no role in the conduct of the police in fact I never see it at full risk but now. Thank God there was no fire outburst or any kind of danger we imposed on ourselves without the help of the police.”

Rowland Okorie also lashed out at a video in circulation in which a blogger added a footnote as to why Igbos were being witch hunted across the globe. Meanwhile the blogger was not at the event.

“What you see in that video is not rejection but a violation mixed with celebration. WE ARE NOT REJECTED .We flooded the hotel with a crowd never seen before without considering the size of the hall. So in actual fact both the hotel and its hall does not deserve our presence and cannot carry our magnitude. We are hardworking and proud people and when we unwind and gather for an event. We unwind to the fullest and gather in a mammoth crowd. In every 13 there is a Judas. So, both the write up and the video leak was done with wrong reasons and betrayal by one of our own backstabbing brothers whose time will come soon. Igbo enemies use the media as weapons of mass destruction to eliminate us, tarnish our image both home and abroad at every twist and turn ,but we will eventually get it done right. We will remove the grains from the chaff. The time has come.” He concluded

Sunday Igboho Hails IBD Dende’s Exceptional Generosity and Loyalty

By Adeyemi Obadimu

A prominent Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Igboho, has publicly commended renowned businessman and philanthropist, Ibrahim Egungbohun, popularly known as IBD Dende, for what he described as extraordinary generosity and unwavering support during one of the most challenging periods of his life.

Speaking about his experience following his release from detention in the Benin Republic, Igboho disclosed that IBD Dende reached out to him immediately to inquire about his welfare and next destination. According to him, when he explained that he was planning to travel to Germany and that the cost of flight tickets for himself and his wife amounted to ₦6 million, Dende requested his bank details.

In a remarkable show of goodwill, Igboho revealed that Dende transferred ₦20 million to his account far above the stated travel expenses with the reassurance that the extra funds could assist with other pressing needs.

Igboho further recounted that upon his eventual return to Nigeria, despite ongoing financial restrictions, IBD Dende was the first person he met. At that meeting, the businessman reportedly provided an additional ₦10 million to enable him host visitors and manage immediate responsibilities, particularly as his bank account remains frozen.

The activist also expressed profound gratitude to former Oyo State Governor, Rasheed Ladoja, whom he credited for resolving issues between him and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Describing Dende as a man of rare loyalty and compassion, Igboho stated that anyone who harbours ill feelings toward the businessman “is under a curse,” emphasizing the depth of gratitude he holds for the support he received.

The development has sparked conversations across social and political circles, further highlighting IBD Dende’s reputation as a philanthropist and influential figure known for standing by associates in difficult times.

BUA Chairman Abdul Samad Rabiu Records Africa’s Biggest Wealth Surge, Net Worth Hits $11.2bn

BUA Chairman Abdul Samad Rabiu Tops Africa’s Wealth Gains in the 2026 Forbes Rankings as His Fortune Jumps 120% to $11.2 Billion, Rising to 3rd Place; Aliko Dangote Remains No.1

Billionaire Industrialist, Philantropist, and Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, has emerged as Africa’s biggest wealth gainer in the 2026 Africa’s Richest People ranking published by Forbes, after his net worth rose sharply over the past year.

According to the latest Forbes list, Rabiu’s wealth surged 120 percent to $11.2 billion, representing the largest increase recorded among the continent’s billionaires in the latest ranking. The jump moves Rabiu, who is Nigerian, to third place among Africa’s richest individuals, up from sixth position a year ago.

The rise in Rabiu’s fortune was driven largely by the strong performance of BUA Cement, his flagship publicly listed company, whose shares surged by 135 percent over the past year. The rally significantly outpaced gains in the broader Nigerian Exchange, which has itself recorded strong growth amid improving investor confidence.

Forbes estimates Rabiu’s net worth at $11.2 billion, placing him behind luxury goods tycoon Johann Rupert, whose fortune is estimated at $16.1 billion, and Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote, who retains the top position with an estimated $28.5 billion.

Rabiu’s rise underscores the growing influence of Nigeria’s industrial sector and the expanding footprint of BUA Group, which has built major operations across cement manufacturing, food processing, sugar refining, infrastructure, mining and energy.

The latest Forbes ranking also highlights a broader surge in wealth across Africa’s billionaire class. The continent’s 23 billionaires now hold a combined net worth of $126.7 billion, representing a 21 percent increase from the previous year, as major equity markets rallied and regional currencies stabilised.

Nigeria remains one of the continent’s leading centres of billionaire wealth, accounting for four individuals on the list, including Dangote, Rabiu, telecommunications magnate Mike Adenuga, and energy investor Femi Otedola.

Forbes said the 2026 ranking was calculated using stock prices and exchange rates as of March 1, 2026, with privately held companies valued using comparable industry benchmarks.

Rabiu’s leap in the ranking reflects not only the strong performance of BUA Cement but also the broader momentum of Nigeria’s capital markets and the continued expansion of large scale industrial enterprises across Africa’s largest economy.

Analysts say the development signals growing investor confidence in African manufacturing and infrastructure driven businesses, sectors that are increasingly central to the continent’s economic transformation.

COAS Ties Battlefield Success to Constitutional Allegiance and Civil Authority

During his operational visit to the 4 Special Forces Command in Doma, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, delivered a stark message, intertwining the elite unit’s combat effectiveness with an unshakeable pledge of allegiance to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Nigerian Constitution.

While directing troops to intensify high-impact operations, the COAS made it clear that their mission is a direct expression of their constitutional oath. He reaffirmed that the Nigerian Army’s primary role is to defend the nation against external aggression and provide aid to civil authority, all in strict adherence to the supreme law of the land and under the leadership of the Commander-in-Chief.

This emphasis on loyalty served as a powerful backdrop to his operational directives. By linking the “decisive defeat” of terrorists to the Army’s constitutional mandate and loyalty to the President, Lt. Gen. Shaibu sought to galvanise the Special Forces, framing their upcoming engagements not just as military objectives but as a sacred duty to the democratically elected government and the nation’s founding charter. The message was clear: their fight is a fight for the Constitution and the president it empowers.
