UBTH trains journalists, others on life support By Elvis Omoregie

As part of efforts geared towards promoting life saving culture, the management of University of Benin (UBTH) has trained journalists, police, Road Safety personnel and market women on Basic Life Support (BLS).

The training was held Sunday at the Oba Ovonramwen square in Benin City, Edo state capital.

The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital, Professor  Darlington Obaseki, said the exercise “is to train people who are not doctors on how to resuscitate people in medical emergencies.”

He stated further that, “The persons trained are first responders. If somebody collapsed or stop breathing, those trained would know what to do at that point.

“600 persons were invited for the training. But we have trained 350 persons so far for free.

“May 12th, 2023 is our (UBTH) 50th anniversary. We are building up to that day. Every month, we want to be doing something to tell the society thank you for supporting us.

“From here, people will be coming to UBTH for a subsidised fee,” he stated.
