She said that the international day for rural women is indeed a moment for sober reflection.

“The day recognises the importance of motherhood, knowing that women are great mentors and teachers in any society but sometimes their voices are not heard or their needs met.

She said the group is one big family that has different needs; different challenges but still look out for one another.

“We are doing our very best to raise our next generation and prepare them for the journey ahead by creating enabling environment for a better tomorrow’’.

“As rural women some of us do not have access to the internet,
but we labour in love contributing the little we have in our own way to
different communities, really we are awesome heroines”.

“We need to remember them, they are really the great heart of the nation, so we need to continue to encourage, help, support and empower them.

“We must do all we need to do to make sure there is a greater development for the rural women,’’ she said.

Hon. Folashade stressed the need to put all the infrastructures in place to make communities have more enabling environment for women to thrive.

“We thank God for the kind of leadership we have that listens so I believe our nation will bounce back, greater and better’’.

The Executive Director Virginspride Foundation, Odebiyi Nkechi said the women of Ikorodu rural community are rural women with international mind.

Odebiyi noted that women are pillars of the society and the celebration is to encourage them and make sure they are not left out.

She advised women on the need for regular exercise.

“You can jog every morning or run, it maybe where you are
doing your business but do not sit down throughout in particular position stand and work around.

Other dignitaries represented at the event appealed to government to provide enabling policies to ensure rural women access grants and other incentives.

Rural women should be included in decision making at all levels of governance to improve their support.
