The management of Africa’s largest television, Nigeria Television Authority, NTA in Abuja on Thursday announced the appointment of Chief Mrs. Funmilayo Wakama – Coker as the new General Manager of the station in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Wakama’s appointment came on the wake of the recent visit of NTA Director-General, Yakubu Mohammed to the Abeokuta station, where he expressed displeasure on the standard of the station.

Funmi Wakama, a former Senior Special Adviser to Ogun State Governor on Media, Senator Ibikunle Amosun and a consummate journalist, joined NTA over two decades ago and has risen to the position of Assistant Director (News) until her new appointment.

Speaking on her appointment, a former Chairman, Correspondents’ Chapel, Ogun NUJ and the state Correspondent, Daily Trust newspaper, Kehinde Akinyemi described the new General Manager of NTA 12, Abeokuta as dedicated and seasoned broadcaster, whose career has become a model for practitioners especially in the broadcast industry.

Akinyemi stressed further that, Wakama’s appointment was a result of a promising career and enthusiasm with the job.

Wakama, a graduate of Mass Communication from the Ogun State Polytechnic (now Moshood Abiola Polytechnic), Abeokuta, will take over on Monday from the incumbent General Manager, who has been redeployed to NTA, Osogbo, Osun State.
