Facts are beginning to emerge on why the Ogun state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun is allegedly hell bent on installing Hon Abdulkadir Adekunle Akinlade as the next governor of Ogun State against all odds.
It was recalled that the governor Amosun singlehandedly picked Akinlade and his deputy alongside 38 other candidates against public protest from his own supporters within the party.
In another twist, the real reason why Amosun preferred Akinlade was the same reason why he preferred the disgraced former minister for finance Kemi Adeosun. Before Kemi Adeosun’s tenure as commissioner, he supervised the procurement of the exemption certificate for Kemi and two other members of his cabinet making Kemi believe that she was entitled to exemption.
Kemi Adeosun and Governor Amosun began to have trouble with each other when she stood against defrauding the federal government over projects done in Ogun state on behalf of the FG by Amosun and many other deals, he decided to be evil towards the lady by blackmailing her with the fake NYSC exemption certificate.
Kemi knew this being an insider in Ogun state government since she was the commissioner of finance. Amosun recommended her because he was sure she would do his bidding and make sure top retired Ogun state government staff went with her to Abuja.
With the success of the Kemi Adeosun treatment, the governor decided to settle for Akinlade who was convicted on 2nd May 2007 at Isleworth Crown Court of being knowingly concerned in a fraudulent evasion of the prohibition on the importation of goods contrary to Section 170(2)(b) of the Customs and Excise Management Act 1979. He was sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment.
Hon Akinlade was stopped at London Heathrow Airport as he returned on a flight from Nigeria. The handles of his suitcases were found to contain 1.099kg of 100% pure cocaine with a street value of £174,000.
He was refused leave to appeal in 2007. He applied to the Commission for a review of his conviction in 2010 before escaping to Nigeria. Mr Akinlade was represented by Corenna Platt at Stephensons Solicitors, 10 – 14 Library Street, Wigan, WN1 1NN. The press release was issued by Justin Hawkins, Head of Communication, Criminal Cases Review Commission, on 0121 633 1806.
While serving as SSA at the Ogun internal revenue service under Amosun, Akinlade was removed having found guilty of committing massive fraud and was sent from IRS to Women Affairs ministry.
Armed with these facts, Governor Ibikunle Amosun believes if he settles for Akinlade and control the state assembly, it will be easy for him to blackmail Akinlade when he becomes the governor and control him to do his bidding without questions.
