Youth  Empowerment: SabiHub, Others Collaborate In Benin City

A training programme designed to empower youths, especially the

unemployed organized by SabiHub in collaboration with Accelerate Labs,

Genius Hub, Edo Jobs, among others, was rounded up in Benin City,

recently.

 

In a chat with newsmen at the ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer of

SabiHub, Nkechi Okwuone said the programme was aimed at building the

capacity of youths in the South – South Zone of the country. She

stated that the programme provided opportunity for participants to

explore alternative ways of engaging themselves in meaningful venture

(s).

Okwuone noted that the three months programme which was anchored by

Accelerate Labs, a programme of Microsoft Nigeria, exposed the

participants to various techniques of developing and managing their

businesses using technology.

 

She disclosed that two of such training would come up in 2018 in Benin

City, Edo State.

On his part, Olusola Amosun of Accelerate Labs, explained that

participants who were drawn from different fields, including

Agriculture, Food Processing and Fashion, were taught how to use

technology to improve their business, especially in the area of social

business marketing. He noted that what they learnt during the training

as it affect their businesses were designed to make them relevant in

the scheme of things.

 

The Project Coordinator of Genius Hub, South – South, Mrs. Isimeme

Ejodame – Whyte, said the role of genius hub in the partnership is to

facilitate mentorship by registering SabiHub members who have gone

through the Accelerate Labs training, to be part of the cooperative of

genius hub; to enable them access loans to grow their businesses.

 

Also speaking, Elijah Ehikweme of Edo Jobs lauded the initiative,

Adding that what Edo jobs does in the partnership is to facilitate or

link people, especially youths on its database to SabiHub for training

to enable them set up their business; while those already in business

are expected to use the platform to accelerate the pace of their

business based on the knowledge they have acquired.

 

About 150 persons participated in the three months training which

started in September, 2017. Highlight of the ceremony was the

presentation of awards (cash) to three participants who distinguished

themselves during the training.
