Agenda of his government.

“We’ve demonstrated that we are a promise-keeping administration, we have a road project, at least one in every local government, but this local government has two. We have the Gbonagun-FAJOL Road which is about seven kilometers and we have this road, and that is just a clear example that if we make these promises and we have come to commission these roads, then you can expect that we will continue in the same vein and keep our promises.

“I want to plead with you that if you are happy with what you are seeing, please endeavour to go out and collect your PVCs, because it is through your PVCs that you will vote for a continuity of the good works of this administration that you voted in 2019 and that you will vote again in 2023”, he stated.

While commending the traditional rulers in Odeda LG for maintaining peace in their domains, the governor promised that his administration would not stop until all access roads are put in good condition, calling on the people to vote for him to continue his good works.

Highlight of the campaign was a call by a JS 2 pupil of De-Dames College, Olayemi Odutola, who on behalf of students, on parents to vote massively for Prince Dapo Abiodun.

She hinged her call on what she called the excellent performance of the governor.

“We say very thank your sir, for magnificent road in our axis. It will afford easy and smooth access to our school. And also reduce the cost of repairs our parents soend on their vehicles.

“We also thank you for valuable peaceful-existence and massive development in the state, for it has opened door for investment

“There is adage that seeing is believing. We have seen remarkable improvement in infrastructure and in other aspects in this state. In view of this, we hereby appeal to our parents and good people of Ogun State to please support massively and vote Governor Dapo Abiodun”, the student emphasized

Earlier, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Akin Adesanya, said the road is one of the various projects executed across the state, adding that the 5.1km road, provided with adequate drainage system, would solve the perennial flooding that had affected the area for long

The Olu of Kemta, Oba Okikiola Tejuosho, said the bad condition of the road affected the economic activities of the people as many man hours were lost in the process of manuvering the bad potions that littered the road, adding that more than 40 communities are also benefiting from the road.

At Bode Olude, the governor announced that the Elega-Bode Olude road would be constructed within a week, while a transformer and borehole would also be constructed to provide potable water to the people of the area.

He apologized to the people for the deplorable condition of the road, which he noted, had caused untold hardship to the people, pleading for their understanding as four years would not be enough to address the infrastructural deficit inherited by his administration.

“When I was coming here this morning, I see that your road is very bad and I was told that you don’t have water. I have directed that a brand new electric transformer be brought to this area. Also, within one week, we will start the construction of the Elega-Bode Olude road.

“Apart from that, we are going to sink a borehole that would serve this area with potable water. Please keep supporting us to do more for you”, the governor submitted.

FG Issues Alert on New COVID-19 Variant XEC Found in 29 Countries

The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has raised an alert on the new XEC COVID-19 variant, urging heightened surveillance across Nigeria’s healthcare facilities.

The XEC variant, first identified in Australia, has now been detected in 29 countries and is showing a growth advantage over existing strains. Health experts are concerned about its potential impact on public health.

The warning was conveyed in a letter dated December 5, addressed to the Committee of Chief Medical Directors and Medical Directors by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. O.N. Anuma.

“I am directed to inform you of the newly detected XEC COVID-19 variant which has already spread to 29 countries globally. This variant has shown a growth advantage over other circulating strains, raising concerns about its potential impact on public health,” the letter read.

Call to Action

Dr. Anuma emphasized the need for immediate vigilance in hospitals nationwide.

“Alert systems should be activated immediately for a high index of suspicion in patients presenting with COVID-like symptoms,” he said.

The ministry also stressed the importance of collaboration among health institutions to monitor the variant and share critical data.

“We urge you to work with relevant stakeholders to implement enhanced monitoring protocols and ensure timely information sharing with the Federal Ministry of Health for effective response strategies.”

Global Spread and Implications

First identified in Germany in June, the XEC variant has since been reported in France, the United States, the UK, Denmark, and other countries. Over 600 cases have been recorded globally, with scientists noting that while the variant has mutations that may aid its spread, vaccines are expected to remain effective in preventing severe cases.

Nine-Year-Old Playing with Matches Sparks Bungalow Fire in Kwara

A nine-year-old child accidentally set a three-bedroom bungalow ablaze in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, on Thursday.

The incident occurred at No. 52, Mandate 2 Housing Estate, in the Ilorin West Local Government Area. According to the Kwara State Fire Service, the fire began when the child ignited a mattress while playing with matches.

Eyewitnesses reported that the fire destroyed a bedroom, the kitchen, and the balcony of the house. The boy’s mother was reportedly outside attending to visitors when neighbors noticed heavy smoke billowing from the bungalow and raised the alarm.

In a statement on Friday, the Kwara State Fire Service confirmed the incident. The Principal Fire Officer and Head of Media and Publicity, Hassan Adekunle, provided details:

“The Kwara State Fire Service responded to a fire outbreak on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at No. 52 Mandate Housing Estate, Ilorin. A three-bedroom flat was nearly destroyed due to a fire caused by a nine-year-old child playing with matches.”

Safety Warning to Parents

The fire service urged parents and guardians to educate children about the dangers of playing with fire and to store matches, lighters, and other flammable materials securely.

“We strongly advise parents to prioritize safety, particularly during the holiday season when children are often left unsupervised at home. Vigilance is essential to prevent such incidents,” the statement read.

With the festive season approaching, the fire service also warned about the risks associated with firecrackers:

“Parents must educate their children on the dangers of firecrackers, commonly known as bangers, and ensure they are used responsibly, if at all. Together, we can prevent tragedies during the festive period.”

Authorities emphasized the importance of fire safety awareness, urging families to take proactive measures to protect lives and property.
