My wife, kids under house arrest is false alarm – Husband

By Our Reporter

Engr. Napoleon Okeahialam Onyebilama says the recent publications by some online media platforms that his wife, Mrs Onyiyechi Akujobi Okeahialam and kids were under house arrest was wrong information and false alarm.

Napoleon who hails from Isiala Ngwa North LGA of Abia state has come out to debunk the story and there after gave a version of his side of the story.

“I am an Igbo man who value our culture,I had my traditional marriage with all the necessary things listed out by the family ,I am not owning any bride price ,my father in-law with his kindred bless the marriage and hand over his daughter to me.

” I am not joining issues with those bloggers who have already achieved their nefarious aim of bringing my name to disrepute, however, I have to put the records right.

“I want to say categorically that these rumours are false, unfounded and malicious as this is clearly the hand work of my wife and her Lawyer, who would stop at nothing to tarnish my image’’.

He said that the process of dissolution of their marriage is currently on at the Customary Court in Abia State over irreconcilable differences.

“About two weeks ago my wife called to inform me that my second child was hospitalized and that she needed money which I transferred to her but decided to travel down to Imo state where they were staying because I took her back to her family since last year.

“When I got to Imo state to check on my children they were looking unkempt and the result was that the child who was sick was suffering from malnutrition, I was surprised because I usually send money for the children allowance and up keep.

” Immediately I decided to bring them back to Lagos to enable me give them proper treatment and monitor the situation.

According to him, `my wife does not take care of the children which is part of the issues we had in the past.

“Within eight months the same case of malnutrition was reported again whenever they fell ill, I needed the children around me for now and that was what I did.

” I never restricted her from going out but not with the children who were under medication,’’ he added.

Narrating her side of the story, Mrs Onyiyechi admitted that she informed her lawyer after her husband brought them back to Lagos thinking that her coming back with her husband will been an avenue for reconciliation.

“Eventually on Wednesday as we were discussing he told me that the children will start school the following Monday.

“When I asked him if has gotten another accommodation for us, he said that he will like the children to stay in his sister’s house but I refused and told him that that will not be possible for me and the children to put up at his sister’s house.

” Surprisingly, everything went soar which includes my movement so I have to inform my lawyer who invited the press,’’ she said.

Reacting to the incident, Mr Ebenezer Omejalile, the Cordinator, Advocates For Children and Vulnerable Persons Network (ACVPN), a Non-Governmental Organisation said there is no truth in what the woman claimed.

Omejalile noted that the matter was reported at the Social Welfare Oshodi/Isolo Local Government Area for intervention, the unit which handles such cases invited the woman but the woman did not honour the invitation rather she and her lawyer went to the press.

However, the Office of Public Defender where trying to use Akinpelu division wrongly, but in other hand the case would have been transferred to the unit under the division that handle such cases,if I may ask what business does child protection cases, custody issues, marriage dissolution concern with this unit?

After all there’s an active JWC/Gender unit Inside Akinpelu Police Station.

The petition sent to Akinpelu Station by the Office of Public Defender, amount to using the police to Perpetrate injustice which would now turn and tarnish the police image because the man was never invited by OPD to hear his own side of the story.

The motive behind such letter had already criminalized Engineer before everyone, it’s unacceptable in all ramifications

“The Office of Public Defender violated the principle of natural justice by jumping into conclusion based on the petition from the wife of Engr. Napoleon Onyebilama without inviting the husband.

“The wife now exploited that loophole and gave the untrue story just to attract public sympathy.

Tension in the Skies: U.S. Fighter Jet Shoots Down Iranian Drone in Arabian Sea

By George Omagbemi Sylvester | Published by saharaweeklyng.com

“An In-Depth Examination of the Strategic Clash, Its Regional Context, and What This Means for Middle East Stability.”

In a dramatic escalation that reverberates across the volatile geopolitical landscape of the Middle East, a United States fighter jet has intercepted and destroyed an Iranian military drone that was approaching the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier in the Arabian Sea. The event has once again thrust U.S.–Iran tensions into the global spotlight, revealing both the raw edges of strategic competition and the profound risks inherent in the world’s most sensitive maritime corridors.

According to the U.S. military’s Central Command, the unmanned aerial vehicle in question was a Shahed-139 drone, a type of Iranian reconnaissance and attack drone that has been increasingly deployed by Tehran in recent years. The drone’s flight toward the warship was described as aggressive and of unclear intent, prompting a U.S. F-35C fighter jet (embarked on the Abraham Lincoln) to engage and destroy it in self-defense. No U.S. personnel were harmed and no equipment was damaged during the encounter.

The Strategic Backdrop: A Region on Edge.

The Arabian Sea, situated between the Gulf of Oman and the broader Indian Ocean, has become a flashpoint in recent months as geopolitical tensions between Washington and Tehran have surged. The United States, under the current administration, has deployed significant naval and aerial assets to the region in response to a series of provocations and concerns over Iran’s nuclear ambitions and domestic repression. The Abraham Lincoln and its strike group represent the most visible component of that buildup, intended officially to deter hostile actions and protect sea lanes that carry a significant proportion of the world’s energy supply.

For Iran, the deployment of drones and asymmetric naval forces; such as swift patrol boats operated by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which serves as a strategic counterweight to U.S. military superiority. Drones like the Shahed-139 can operate at long ranges, surveil maritime traffic and potentially be armed, making them an appealing tool for Iran to project power in international waters while avoiding overt escalation.

A Sequence of Confrontations.

The shootdown did not occur in isolation. Hours earlier, the U.S. military reported that IRGC forces harassed the U.S.-flagged merchant vessel M/V Stena Imperative in the narrow Strait of Hormuz, a chokepoint through which a large percentage of global oil shipments pass. Two fast patrol boats and an Iranian Mohajer drone approached the tanker at high speed and appeared to threaten boarding or seizure, forcing the guided-missile destroyer USS McFaul and accompanying air support to intervene and ensure the ship’s safe passage.

This sequence of collisions (drones heading toward a major capital warship and smaller Iranian craft closing in on a civilian vessel) underscores just how easily miscalculation could spiral into open conflict. It evokes broader questions about freedom of navigation, the security of international waters, and the rules governing naval and aerial encounters among adversaries.

Voices From the Frontlines of Policy and Strategy.

To add intellectual weight to the analysis of this incident, it is essential to consider the interpretations of respected scholars and security experts who have long studied U.S.–Iran strategic dynamics.

Dr. Karim Sadjadpour, a senior fellow at a leading international policy think tank, argues that “the interception of this Iranian drone highlights the growing role of unmanned systems in strategic deterrence. Iran views these systems as force multipliers that allow it to contest superior naval forces at a lower threshold of direct conflict. However, this calculus is fraught with danger because it creates ambiguity about intent that can easily be misread under high tension.”

Echoing this concern, Professor Emma Sky, an expert in Middle Eastern security affairs, says, “What we are witnessing is not simply a tactical engagement; it is a symptom of deeper structural tensions. The United States and Iran are locked in a cycle where military posturing and strategic signaling substitute for diplomacy. Without clear communication channels and trusted negotiation frameworks, these kinds of encounters risk igniting a broader confrontation that neither side truly wants.”

These perspectives underscore that the shootdown is far more than a momentary flashpoint. it is a window into a broader strategic rivalry with implications for regional peace, global trade and international law.

Historical Context and the Legacy of Miscalculations.

The specter of past incidents looms large over contemporary events. History offers sobering reminders of how aerial and naval engagements can escalate with devastating consequences. One of the most infamous examples was the downing of Iran Air Flight 655 in 1988, when a U.S. Navy warship mistakenly shot down a civilian airliner over the Strait of Hormuz, killing all passengers and crew. That tragedy has remained a touchstone in U.S.–Iran relations and continues to inform how both sides view rules of engagement and the risks of misidentification in crowded maritime airspace.

More recently, in 2019, Iran shot down a U.S. surveillance drone over the Strait of Hormuz, claiming it had violated Iranian airspace, a claim rejected by Washington. That event brought the two nations to the brink of retaliatory strikes before cooler heads prevailed.

These historical precedents frame the latest shootdown as not merely an isolated act of defense, but part of an enduring pattern of shadow boxing between two powerful adversaries whose missteps can have outsized consequences.

Diplomacy Amidst Tension: Negotiations Continue.

Despite the military flare-ups, diplomatic currents are still flowing. Officials from both countries have indicated that negotiations remain scheduled, with discussions focusing principally on nuclear issues and broader security concerns. Tehran has proposed shifting the venue of talks to Oman and emphasizing bilateral rather than multilateral engagement. Washington, for its part, has maintained that diplomacy is preferable to conflict but that it reserves the right to act in defense of its forces and interests.

Ali Larijani, a senior Iranian statesman, recently commented that “Iran desires peace and stability, especially in our region. But peace must be rooted in fairness, respect for sovereign rights, and a mutual recognition of security concerns.” At the same time, U.S. officials have reiterated that freedom of navigation and the protection of commercial shipping are non-negotiable principles of international order.

What This Means for Regional Stability.

The implications of this shootdown extend well beyond a single drone or a single aircraft carrier. It underscores the delicate balance of power in the Middle East, where strategic competition between the United States and Iran plays out not only in boardrooms and negotiation halls, but in the skies and seas that connect continents.

For regional actors, from Gulf states to North African capitals, these events reinforce the urgency of diversified security frameworks that reduce reliance on unilateral military actions and encourage collective approaches to maritime safety. For global actors concerned about energy markets, commerce, and geopolitical stability, the incident is a stark reminder that conflict in this part of the world can have ripple effects far beyond its shores.

Summative

The downing of an Iranian drone by a U.S. fighter jet near the USS Abraham Lincoln is far more than a tactical military engagement, it is a stark symbol of the entrenched tensions between Washington and Tehran, and a testament to how easily localized confrontations can escalate into broader strategic crises. While diplomacy persists, the fragile equilibrium that holds the Middle East together is under test. As scholars and policymakers continue to debate pathways toward peace, one truth remains clear: without sustained dialogue, mutual restraint, and robust mechanisms to manage friction, such episodes will continue to shape the future of international security with unpredictable consequences.

Ajadi, Peter Obi, Adeleke, Others Join Makinde at Oyo@50 Thanksgiving Service

The leading gubernatorial aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, on Sunday joined Governor Seyi Makinde, former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, the wife of the Osun State Governor, Chief (Mrs) Titilola Adeleke, and other eminent dignitaries at a Thanksgiving Service marking the seventh day of activities commemorating the 50th anniversary of Oyo State.

The service, held at the Cathedral of St. Peter’s, Aremo, Ibadan, drew a large congregation of worshippers, political leaders, traditional rulers, and stakeholders across the state and beyond, underscoring the significance of the golden jubilee celebration.

Speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the event, Ambassador Ajadi congratulated Governor Makinde, former Governor and Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, and other stakeholders for steering the state to its historic milestone, describing the anniversary as a moment for reflection, gratitude, and renewed commitment to progress.
Oyo State at 50 is not just a celebration of years; it is a celebration of the strength, resilience and enduring spirit of our people,” Ajadi said. “I congratulate His Excellency, Engineer Seyi Makinde, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja and all stakeholders for sustaining the legacy of excellence, unity and progress that the Pacesetter State represents.”
He praised the people of the state for their resilience over the decades. He acknowledged the collective efforts of past and present leaders who have contributed to Oyo State’s political stability, economic growth and rich cultural heritage since its creation in 1976.
Ajadi, an entrepreneur and philanthropist, noted that the golden jubilee provides an opportunity for both leaders and citizens to critically assess the journey so far and recommit themselves to building a more inclusive and prosperous future.

“As we celebrate this golden anniversary, we must reflect on where we are coming from, where we are today and where we want to be,” he said. “Oyo State has produced great leaders, intellectuals, professionals and cultural icons.

He also commended the state government for designing a commemorative programme that blends intellectual engagement with the celebration of excellence, stressing that such initiatives help preserve history while inspiring younger generations.
Earlier, Governor Makinde, while addressing the congregation, said that although his tenure would end in May 2027, the team with which he has delivered good governance remains intact and prepared to continue the state’s development trajectory in different capacities.

The governor, who read the second Bible lesson from Matthew 5:1–12, attributed his emergence as governor in 2019 after eight years of political contest to divine grace, describing his administration as a “new beginning” for Oyo State.

“I was the eighth civilian governor of Oyo State, and in the Bible, the number eight signifies a new beginning,” Makinde said. “God has been merciful to us, and we will continue to govern in accordance with His will and guidance for the people of Oyo State.”

He assured residents of continuity in governance, emphasising that while he would exit office at the end of his tenure, members of his team would remain committed to serving the state.
“We have a team that is still intact. It is only Seyi Makinde that will go out; the members of the team are there to continue the work for the people of Oyo State,” he stated.

In a goodwill message, former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Mr Peter Obi, lauded Makinde’s leadership style and the transformation witnessed in the state under his administration.
Oyo State is a city of knowledge and a city of hope,” Obi said. “I thank Governor Makinde for faithfully serving the people. Nigeria is not a poor country, but a poorly governed one, and what we are seeing in Oyo State is an example of using public resources for public good.”

Dignitaries at the event included the wife of the governor, Her Excellency Engr Tamunominini Olufunke Makinde; wife of the Osun State Governor, Chief (Mrs) Titilola Adeleke; former First Lady of Oyo State, Chief (Mrs) Mutiat Ladoja; Chief Judge of Oyo State, Hon. Justice Iyabo Yerima; Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Musibau Babatunde; and several other government officials, traditional rulers and political leaders.
