APC Loses Majority As 12 Senators Submit Defection Letter To Senate President, Ahmed Lawan

The Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan, is sitting over the defection letters of at least 12 All Progressives Congress senators in order to block any impeachment threat against his presidency.

Already the numerical strength of the APC in the Red Chamber has reduced from 64 to 62 in the upper chamber.

 

 

 

 

 

For the Peoples Democratic Party, the numerical strength has risen from 39 to 41, while the New Nigeria Peoples Party has two, with Young Progressives Party and All Progressives Grand Alliance having one each.

If the defection letters of the APC 12 Senators are read on the floor, the numerical strength of the ruling party will be reduced to 50 senators, which will eventually threaten Lawan’s seat as the Senate president.

 

 

 

 

 

Among the senators, who the Senate president is sitting upon his defection notice is Senator Adamu Bulkachuwa, who submitted his defection letter Lawan.

The senators elected on the platform of the opposition parties had on Wednesday demanded for the impeachment of President Muhammadu Buhari over the country’s worsening security situation.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Some opposition senators were at that considering of removing the Senate president if he standing against the impeachment process of President Buhari.

President Bola Tinubu has received in audience the former governors of Rivers and Ebonyi states, Nyesom Wike and David Umahi respectively as well as Senator Godswill Akpabio, the anointed candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Senate Presidency.

This is the second time the former Rivers state governor will be visiting the President in 72 hours.

 

After the last visit, he told correspondents that the move was strictly to show support as a Nigerian, denying insinuations that he wants to defect to the APC.

 

 

 

The agenda for this visit is unclear but it may not be unconnected with the leadership of the 10th Assembly that will be inaugurated this month.

The governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Showunmi, was on Monday beaten by thugs, suspected to be loyalists of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Eye witness report has it that Showunmi was approaching the entrance of the Isabo court premises, venue of the Ogun State election petition tribunal when he was ambushed by the thugs.

 

 

 

 

 

The PDP governorship aspirant was flogged with canes and physically assaulted, nearly falling into a ditch.

 

 

 

 

 

He was while trying to escape from his attackers pursued with canes and stones.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Our correspondent who was at the scene of the incident reports that operatives of the police, the Amotekun Corps and others appeared to be unconcerned while the politician was being assaulted.

 

 

 

 

 

 

He was later whisked away by some men, leaving his car behind.

Showunmi while speaking with our correspondent after the attack, narrated his ordeal today at the tribunal sitting in Abeokuta describing the attack as aberration in this modern days politics,

 

 

 

 

 

“I was ambushed by the suspected hoodlums wearing yellow cap and all I could see is beating me with cane till I ran into the ditch this morning”

The party governorship aspirant, Segun Showunmi while trying to escape from his attackers was pursued with canes and stones.

Sahara Weekly Reports That A Social  Political group Edo Progressive Forum has called on a chieftain of the Labour Party Dr. Oghogho Okundaye, to join the governorship race for Edo state  2024.

Throwing more light on the issue the secetary and Publicity Secretary of the group Erhabor Osamuyi and Isah Briamoh respectively  said having been following the pedigree of Dr Okundaye the group decided to call on him to take the bull by the horn and contest.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

They said apart from his humanitarian and generosity Dr. Okundaye level of intellect and exposure are some of the criteria the next Edo State governor should possess in order to take the state to further heights
