In the tumultuous landscape of North-East Nigeria, where the shadows of insurgency loom large, one man has emerged as a guiding light for the oppressed and marginalized. Barrister Zannah Bukar Mustapha, a name synonymous with resilience and compassion, has been spearheading the Future Prowess Islamic Foundation, a beacon of hope amidst the chaos.

Established in response to the harrowing challenges brought about by the insurgency in the region, the Future Prowess Islamic Foundation stands as a testament to Barrister Zannah’s unwavering commitment to alleviating the suffering of those most affected. Since its inception on 27th February 2007, with Certificate of Registration Number BN0024478 (MD), the foundation has tirelessly worked to address the multifaceted needs of children and widows ravaged by conflict.

At the heart of the foundation’s mission lies a dedication to nurturing the holistic development of its beneficiaries – be it psychological, educational, spiritual, or otherwise. Recognizing the dire need for educational support, the foundation obtained a Certificate of Registration of Private School from the Borno State Ministry of Education on 30th January 2008, paving the way for the establishment and operation of a private nursery & primary school.

Undeterred by the adversities that surround them, the Future Prowess Islamic Foundation recently expanded its reach by opening a second school in Fori, within the Maiduguri Metropolis, dedicated to providing solace and support to orphans and widows. In a region marred by violence and displacement, these schools serve as sanctuaries of learning and hope, offering a glimmer of optimism amidst the despair.

“Our mission is clear,” Barrister Zannah asserts with unwavering resolve, “to protect the rights and well-being of every child, to support hope programs for children in North-East Nigeria, and to reach the most vulnerable women, widows, and children.” With an estimated one million children displaced and countless lives shattered by violence, the foundation’s work has never been more crucial.

Despite the relentless onslaught of the insurgency, the Future Prowess Islamic Foundation has remained steadfast in its commitment to its beneficiaries. While other institutions shuttered their doors in the face of danger, these schools stood resolute, providing a lifeline for those in need. In a region plagued by bloodshed and turmoil, Barrister Zannah’s unwavering dedication shines as a beacon of hope for all.

Yet, amidst the countless success stories and triumphs, the journey ahead remains fraught with challenges. The insurgency continues to ravage communities, claiming lives and uprooting families with impunity. The need for rehabilitation and resettlement is dire, particularly for the most vulnerable groups – the orphaned children and widows left in the wake of violence.

Acknowledging these pressing needs, the Future Prowess Islamic Foundation’s intervention programs tirelessly strive to address the myriad challenges faced by the afflicted. From healthcare and education to empowerment initiatives for widows, the foundation leaves no stone unturned in its pursuit of a brighter future for all.

In the face of adversity, Barrister Zannah Bukar Mustapha stands as a towering figure of compassion and resilience, a testament to the power of unwavering determination in the pursuit of justice and hope. Through the Future Prowess Islamic Foundation, he has not only transformed lives but also sown the seeds of a brighter tomorrow in the war-torn landscape of North-East Nigeria.

REAL ESTATE INDUSTRY EXPERTS, STAKEHOLDERS RAISE ALARM OVER BUILDING COLLAPSE IN LAGOS, SEEK URGENT REFORMS

The recurring tragedy of building collapse in Lagos once again came under the spotlight today as stakeholders from across Nigeria’s building industry gathered at the University of Lagos for the Professor Leke Oduwaye-Adron Homes Urban Development Dialogue, a high-level forum aimed at addressing regulatory and construction lapses fueling the crisis.

Themed “Recurring Building Collapse in Lagos: The Challenge of Regulatory Oversight and Construction Practices,” the dialogue was organized by the Department of Urban and Regional Planning (DURP), University of Lagos, in collaboration with real estate giant Adron Homes.

Delivering goodwill remarks, the Group Chairman of Adron Group, Sir Aare Adetola Emmanuel King, KOF, issued a strong call for accountability across the building sector. Describing building collapse as a “tragedy that has become far too familiar,” Aare Adetola Emmanuelking emphasized that such disasters are not acts of fate but direct results of human negligence, greed, and systemic failure.

“Buildings do not collapse by accident. They collapse because somewhere along the chain of planning, approval, construction, or supervision, individuals choose to compromise,” he stated firmly”, he stated.

The respected real estate mogul outlined what he termed the three uncompromising actions needed to combat the menace: Verification, Validation, and Control, stressing that all actors within the building industry must be held to the highest standards of competence and ethical responsibility.

The event featured a thought-provoking guest lecture by TPL. (Dr.) Idris Salako FNITP, former Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development. Drawing from his vast experience, Dr. Salako delivered a hard-hitting analysis of the root causes of building collapse in Lagos. He identified critical gaps such as weak enforcement of development control regulations, poor coordination between regulatory agencies, and widespread disregard for approved building plans by some developers.

Dr. Salako further highlighted how political interference, corruption, and the proliferation of quack professionals continue to erode the integrity of the building sector. He stressed the urgent need for capacity building among regulatory bodies, proper training and certification of artisans, and the full digitalization of building approval processes to ensure transparency and efficiency.

The dialogue also featured keynote addresses by TPL. Tunji Odunlami FNITP, Ogun State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, and Professor Ayo Omotayo, Director General, National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru. Both speakers echoed the need for proactive urban planning, robust regulatory frameworks, and collaboration between government, professionals, and private developers to create safer cities.

Other dignitaries in attendance included Tpl. Waheed Kadiri FNITP, PPNITP, Past President, Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (Chairman of the event), Professor Modupe Omirin, Dean, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, UNILAG, Dr. Taofik Salau, Head of Department, DURP, UNILAG, and Dr. S.A. Adeyemi, Chairman, Organizing Committee, among several others.

Participants unanimously called for urgent reforms to curb building failures, emphasizing the need for professionalism, transparency, and stricter enforcement of building regulations.

The dialogue is expected to spark renewed policy debates and strategic actions toward ensuring that Lagos, and indeed Nigeria, builds safe, resilient, and sustainable urban spaces where lives are protected and dreams can thrive.
