In Case You Missed Lagos Laughs 2018: Here Are The Glitz, The Glamour, The Comedians and Dignitaries That Made the Comedy Show Trend [PICTURES INSIDE]

Published

The popular Eko Convention Centre play host to the second edition of
Lagos Laughs on Sunday, May 6, 2018. On the roll call were dignitaries
from different walks of life, politicians, comedians, celebrities,
entertainers and the almighty Lagosians whom the show was intended
for. Last year may have had 50 comedians on roll call but this year’s
many rib cracking moments will make you forget last year’s feat.
On stage were DJ Bell Cheque and DJ Consequence serving the audience
with a rare mood, so good you want to groove, forgetting you are in a
comedy show. On the side was the biggest live band from Nigeria, the
Shuga Band led by polio ambassador, Mr Akin Shuga. The live renditions
of some of Nigeria’s classics could make even the lame believe he can
jump. Music was definitely on Top Gear.
From comedic performances by SeyiLaw, Gordons, Gbenga Adeyinka,
Omobaba, Basketmouth, Kennyblaq, SACO, DeeOne, Princess, Woli Arole,
Lasisi Elenu, Koffi, to the 15 upcoming comedians that contested live
on stage as part of the Ibile Comedy Challenge. The audience was
reeled to an unreserved and unapologetic laughter. Lagos Laughs 2018
was definitely nothing more than what it is – a comedy show!
The event, which is also in celebration of World Laughter Day was a
feast of celebrities who simply came out to enjoy themselves. From
movie actors such as Ramsey Nouah,  Deyemi Okanlawon, Nse Ikpe Etim,
Toyin Abraham, Linda Ejiofor, Gifty Powers, Kunle Afolayan to many
more too numerous to mention. Amongst other celebrities on call were
BBNaija’s Anto and Ahneeka.
A major highlight of the show was the stage drama that humoured the
Big Brother Naija housemates. Frank Donga and EmmaOhMaGod were the
judges and comedian Ebiye was the police officer to bring in the
culprits. Instagram sensation, Josh2Funny came on stage as Alex and
eventually as Tobi. The judge gave their comedic verdicts to the
applause of the audience but nothing could prepare the audience for
the entrance of fast rising comedian, Mc Lively who posed as Collins
(the supposed ex-boyfriend of Nina) and came to vent his anger to Nina
and the judges. The word hilarious does not explain his performance
before he was dragged off the stage.
The power show also play host to the Executive Governor of Lagos
State, ably represented by Senator Olamilekan Adeola ‘Yayi’,
Commissioner for Information, Mr Steve Ayorinde and a league of Lagos
State top government officials. The minister for information, Alhaji
Lai Mohammed was also in attendance to support the project and share
the message of the Federal Government in the area of arts.
The minister, in his two minutes speech commended Lagos State for
being the art loving state and for supporting the comedy industry and
other arts like no other person has done before. Some of the other
celebrities who commended Lagos for being the most supportive
administration for the comedy industry are Comedian TeeA and Gbenga
Adeyinka.

By Alhaji Arems (Baba Fuji)

Otunba Gbenga, popularly known as Leo Taiwo, will be celebrated for his 45-year journey in the music industry at a special event scheduled for Tuesday, May 5, 2026, in Lagos.

The event, set to hold at the Radio Lagos Marquee Hall in Agidingbi, Ikeja, is expected to bring together friends, family, and associates to honour a career defined by longevity and consistent contribution to Nigeria’s Fuji music scene.

Though not widely in the public spotlight, Leo Taiwo is regarded within industry circles as a respected figure whose work has spanned decades. His role as a music producer and collaborator has positioned him among the quiet contributors who have supported the growth and continuity of Fuji music over the years.

The celebration is slated to begin at 2 p.m., with guests expected to observe a white dress code. Attendance will be by access card, with caps and gele serving as entry identifiers.

Fuji star King Sule Alao Malaika is billed to lead the music for the occasion, while popular hosts Ifankaleluyah and Tokunbo Marvins will anchor proceedings.

The choice of venue underscores the cultural relevance of the event. Radio Lagos has long been associated with the promotion of indigenous music, making it a fitting location for a milestone rooted in tradition and legacy.

Reaching 45 years in any creative industry is a notable achievement. In a genre that has evolved across generations, such longevity reflects both resilience and sustained relevance.

As preparations continue, the event is shaping up to be not just a celebration of one man’s journey, but also a moment to acknowledge the enduring community behind Fuji music.
