…. members, villagers alleged boko haram

Pandemonium broke out in the Bali area of Taraba state, yesterday evening when some terrorists attacked the fountain of God church. Several worshippers were injured, while the pastor and at least five other members are still missing as a result of the attack believed to be masterminded by the dreaded Boko Haram sect.

The mountain of God church in Bali, a fast growing branch that has its headquarters in Okota, Lagos was established less than a year ago. The leadership of the church led by the leading and visiting pastor Emmanuel Ndukwe had engaged the local village in a series of welfare programs and massive philanthropic work which attracted many indigenes of the area who are mostly Muslims. Bali, a village known to be predominantly Muslim, saw many of its Muslim indigenes converted to Christians as a result of the massive and indiscriminate welfare and philanthropic outlook of the church which according to the pastors wife was designed to win souls for Christ. The terrorists attack was seen as a form of revenge and reprisal attack on the church.

The Boko Haram sect had alleged the church to have converted a good number of their members according to one of the residents of the area who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Mummy hazan, (not real name) also told our correspondent that the terrorist attacked the church after several warnings to the Church leadership to stop the welfare program which they alleged was against the wish of the sect.

Corroborating the claims by mum hazan, Mrs Emma-Ndukwe kikelomo Stellamaris, the wife of the missing pastor who was receiving treatment at a hospital when this reporter visited, confirmed the warning by the sect members. She regretted their decision to have dared the terrorists. She pleaded with the reporter to help in locating her missing husband, wincing in pain as she talked.

Efforts to reach the pastor through his phone proved abortive as calls put to his lines were not connecting.

Security operatives were sighted in strategic places of the village but none was willing to speak with the reporter.

Bali village is notorious for the activities of sect members in recent years despite repeated and upgraded efforts by the state government to cleanse the village.
