LASIEC’s Unjust Disqualification of PDP Candidates: A Call for Immediate Intervention

Published

on

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has unjustly refused to clear the majority of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship and councillorship candidates across Lagos State. This decision comes despite the fact that our party dutifully submitted all required documents within the stipulated timeframe. LASIEC now claims that some documents are “missing” from their office and systems a claim we strongly contest.

It has become necessary to alert the general public to this clear misuse of power in Lagos State. It is evident that this targeted action against our candidates is driven by the fact that PDP’s flag bearers are widely recognized as credible and enjoy significant popularity compared to candidates of other parties.

By deliberately withholding clearance, LASIEC is effectively working to prevent our candidates from participating in the forthcoming local government elections scheduled for July 12, 2025, across Lagos State.

Today, June 30, 2025, members of the PDP Lagos State Electoral Committee and our affected candidates reported to LASIEC’s office as early as 8:00 a.m., hoping for a fair resolution. Regrettably, after waiting the entire day, they were dismissed without a conclusive outcome. Instead, they were merely told to return on Wednesday, which happens to be the last day of the screening process with no assurance they will be attended to.

We consider this a deliberate attempt to disenfranchise our party and its candidates, undermining democratic principles and the free choice of Lagosians.

We therefore call on all well-meaning Nigerians, the people of Lagos State, and His Excellency the Governor of Lagos State to urgently intervene to ensure justice and fairness. Our great party, the PDP, deserves to participate in this election without obstruction, intimidation, or administrative manipulation.

Prince Amb. (Dr) Adedipe Dauda Ewenla
PDP Southwest Ex-officio
