Governor Dauda Lawal Ph.d has officially emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 election in Zamfara State, following a consensus arrangement adopted by the party for its primaries.
The governor secured the ticket after party members and supporters gathered across various wards to endorse him as the APC’s flagbearer for the forthcoming election. The consensus model, which allowed party stakeholders to unite behind a single candidate, was embraced as a strategy to avoid a contentious primary and strengthen internal cohesion ahead of the 2027 polls.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the exercise, Governor Lawal expressed profound gratitude to party members for the confidence reposed in him. He reaffirmed his commitment to the people of Zamfara, pledging to consolidate ongoing developmental projects aimed at improving the lives of residents across the state.
“I am deeply honored by the trust and support of our party faithful,” Lawal said. “We will not relent in our efforts to deliver meaningful development, enhance security, and create opportunities for all citizens of Zamfara State.”
His emergence underscores the party’s push to build continuity and strong leadership in the northwest region.
Political analysts note that the adoption of consensus candidate signals the APC’s preference for unity and reduced internal friction as the party prepares for the next electoral cycle.

Lagos lawmaker, Adewale Temitope Adedeji, has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the party’s candidacy in Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency 1 ahead of the 2027 general election.
Adewale, a current member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, scored 19,111 to defeat his closest rival, Obawole Quadri lawal, who polled 295 votes.
Three other aspirants in the election that was monitored by the state electoral officers, the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies, Afolabi Ajiboye, Akinyemi Temitope, and Adewale Lateef, scored 165, 73 and 33 votes respectively.
The primary election was conducted peacefully on Wednesday across seven political wards in the constituency.
A youth leader and participant in the exercise, Demola Olajide, said the peaceful exercise was the result of the maturity of the aspirants and the members’ respect for party supremacy.
In a ‘thank you’ message to his constituents on Thursday, Adewale described his victory at the primary election as democracy in action.
He noted that the beauty of the exercise was that he had despite having other aspirants, the election was peaceful.
“What makes this moment special wasn’t just the win. It was the voices that were heard, the choices people made freely, and the peaceful process that let a community decide its own path forward.
“That’s the heart of democracy: every vote counts, every opinion matters, and power flows from the people up.
“May this new chapter bring the progress and unity we have promised to fight for. The real work starts now and our leaders are watching with hope.
“Let’s be further determined to increase our support for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat and other candidates of the party in the 2027 election,” he urged.

General Buratai’s Son Emerges APC Consensus Ticket For Biu Assembly Seat
BIU — Captain Mohammed Tukur Tukur Buratai, son of former Chief of Army Staff Tukur Yusuf Buratai, has emerged as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the Borno State House of Assembly seat representing Biu ahead of the forthcoming general election.
Captain Buratai secured the party’s endorsement following the withdrawal of other aspirants, including the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Yakubu Gambo Kimba, Hon. Yamta Gur, and Aliyu Ismail, during the APC primary process held in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
The consensus arrangement was subsequently ratified through a voice vote by party delegates, supporters, and residents who attended the exercise.
Announcing the outcome, the Chairman of the Primary Election Committee and Borno State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Saina Buba, declared Captain Mohammed Tukur Tukur Buratai as the party’s flag bearer for the Biu State Assembly seat.
Buba said the decision followed consultations among stakeholders and voluntary withdrawals by the other aspirants in the interest of party unity and cohesion ahead of the elections.
In his acceptance speech, Captain Buratai pledged to offer inclusive representation and prioritise youth empowerment, education, and community development if elected into office.
He also commended Governor Babagana Umara Zulum and Deputy Governor Umar Usman Kadafur for what he described as a transparent and orderly primary process.
The APC candidate further expressed gratitude to party stakeholders, members of the election committee, supporters, and aspirants who stepped down for him, describing their support as a demonstration of unity within the party.
Speaking after the exercise, Hon. Yakubu Gambo Kimba praised Governor Zulum, the deputy governor, and party leaders in Biu for providing him the opportunity to serve the constituency.
He urged APC members and supporters to unite behind the consensus candidate to sustain development efforts in the area.
Kimba also described the consensus arrangement as transparent, peaceful, and well coordinated under the supervision of party stakeholders and government officials.

The immediate past Executive Chairman of Agege Local Government Area, High Chief Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi, and Barrister. Azeez Oladapo Ninalowo have emerged winners in the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Assembly primaries in Agege Constituency 01 and 02, respectively, held Wednesday, May 20.
Egunjobi and Ninalowo had earlier been adopted as the party’s consensus candidates during a caucaus meeting of the party presided over by Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon.Mudashiru Obasa last Tuesday. The Speaker’s public backing of the two candidates was said to have greatly influenced voting patterns among delegates and strengthened confidence in their candidacies.
Party faithful and stakeholders turned out in thousands as they gleefully pitched their tents behind their preferred candidates during the exercise held across all the wards in Agege. The primaries were broadcast live on various social media platforms while officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were fully on ground throughout the exercise to monitor proceedings.
The Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies were also on hand to ensure law and order. Their presence contributed significantly to the smooth conduct of the primaries, as there were no reports of violence, disruption, or electoral malpractice. Noteworthy is that the exercise in Agege was widely commended for its orderly conduct, transparency, and adherence to democratic principles.
There was an outburst of celebrations across Agege as supporters of Egunjobi and Ninalowo took to the streets and major roads to celebrate the outcome, expressing optimism that both men would provide quality representation and sustain developmental strides within their constituencies.
Party leaders who addressed supporters after the announcement of results praised the maturity displayed by the aspirants during the process. They urged party members to remain united and work collectively towards the party’s success in the forthcoming general elections.
They also reiterated the APC’s commitment to internal democracy, unity, and peaceful political engagement. They called on all aspirants and supporters to close ranks and channel their energies towards ensuring victory for the party at the polls. The successful conduct of the primaries has further reinforced confidence in the party’s structure and leadership within Agege, setting the stage for a robust campaign ahead of the elections.
