Group drags Buhari to court over the killing unarmed protesters in Port Harcourt
A human rights group, Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice (CHRSJ) has concluded arrangement to drag President Muhammadu Buhari before the International Criminal Court of Justice for extra- judicial killing of unarmed peaceful protesters in Port Harcourt.
They were demanding for the unconditional release of the leader of the indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB ) and Executive Director of Radio Biafra, Comrade Nnamdi Kanu, who had been illegal detained.
The group condemned Buhari for ordering security men to shoot at sight at the protesters which led to the death of few protesters, insisting that Buhari has committed an offence against the innocent citizens of Nigeria which he pledged to protect while taking the oath of office.
It criticised the series of attacks against the activists of IPOB by Military Personnel and anti-riot policemen on the orders of President Buhari that the protesters -IPOB should be shot at sight.
CHRSJ’s Chairman, Comrade Adeniyi Sulaiman, frowned at the way and manner the unarmed peaceful protesters in Port Harcourt and part of the South Eastern and South South Nigeria were being attacked in a democratic era, describing the attack as undemocratic, anti-people and criminal in nature, insisting that President Buhari led –Federal Government has committed a serious offence against humanity. He added that the blood of those who lost their lives and sustained injuries during the brute attack of IPOB would continue to haunt Mr. President.
Comrade Sulaiman who declared his total support for the peaceful protest said that the arrest of Kanu is illegal, tribalistic, unlawful and unconstitutional, and demanded his unconditional release. He condemned the President Buhari for ordering security agents to face the harmless peaceful protesters with brute force which is against the principles of democracy that gives the citizens freedom to assemble and protest to press home demands,
According to him: “The order given to security agents to shoot peaceful protesters showed the level of religious and ethnic bigotry on the part of President Buhari. But, we have informed our lawyers to prepare our paper on the attack and file it before the International Criminal court of Justice on the allegation of extra judicial killings.
“We believe that leadership should be about service to humanity, not to use brute force of despotic days of military era on the innocent citizens of the country. We want international communities as well to investigate the regime of President Buhari”, he stressed.
