JUST IN: Former President Muhammadu Buhari Passes Away in London

Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has passed away in London.

The news of his death was confirmed by his former aide, Bashir Ahmad, in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter). Ahmad wrote:

“INNA LILLAHI WA INNA ILAIHIR RAJI’UN. The family of the former president has announced the passing of Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon in a clinic in London. May Allah accept him into Aljannatul Firdaus. Amin.”

President Buhari served as Nigeria’s civilian leader from 2015 to 2023, following a previous tenure as the country’s military head of state from 1983 to 1985. He was widely known for his anti-corruption drive and policies aimed at economic reform and national security.

Further details regarding burial arrangements are expected to be announced by the family, in line with Islamic traditions.

The All-Progressives Congress (APC) is about to suffer a massive loss of key actors in its rank and file, a source close to the leadership of the party in the south west, north east and north west region of the party who would like to be anonymous disclosed over the weekend.

According to a source, the APC in the next couple of weeks will be begin to see a mass exodus of key actors within its rank and file who have continued to express displeasure and lack of fate in the government of President Tinubu and the way the party is being governed across the regions.

The source claimed that there are high level talks on-going with the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and these groups would have at different times met both the former President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Former Senate President David Mark in different fora.

It will be noted that the APC has been severally challenged by the ADC that the President Tinubu government and its policies are completely non-inclusive, significantly clannish, extremely anti-poor and lack every sense of human kindness. This has become the undoing of the ruling APC and has come to hunt the party that according to critical consideration from watchers hasn’t performed well from all economic indicators.

From all indications, it’s already looking like speculations about the APC imploding is beginning to take form arising from the news gathered around the leadership of the party in the regions and specifically those of Ondo, Ekiti, Ondo, Ekiti, Ogun, Kano and 6 Other States from the North East and North West regions.

Amosun declares support for cultural legacy as Abeokuta Film Festival decorates him as Patron

Former Governor of Ogun State and Senator representing Ogun Central, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has expressed heartfelt appreciation to the organizers of the Abeokuta Film Festival, who recently honored him with an award and decorated him as Patron of the Festival.

Receiving the award personally at his residence in Abeokuta, Senator Amosun emphasized that legacy and service should outweigh the pursuit of recognition. He commended the organizers for promoting local achievements but noted that true leadership lies in quiet, impactful service rather than self-promotion.

“I’ve never been the type to chase awards or honors,” he said. “If you’re in a position of authority or leadership, just do your work. That’s what you’re there for. Let the impact speak for itself.”

Referencing historical figures such as Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Sir Ahmadu Bello, and Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Amosun remarked that their legacies endure not because of awards, but because of the depth of their contributions. While he acknowledged the motivational power of recognition, he reiterated that real reward lies in meaningful impact.

Senator Amosun praised the Abeokuta Film Festival as a vital cultural platform and called for its expansion across Ogun State and the Southwest region. He proposed greater collaboration and suggested a regional brand identity such as “KAARO OJIRE,” which he said could showcase the diversity of languages and stories from the area.

Pledging continued support for the initiative, he assured the organizers of his availability whenever needed. “Even without this award, I’ve always been ready to contribute. Now, with this recognition, I’m even more inspired to do more,” he stated.

In conclusion, he dedicated the award to the pioneers and legends of Nigeria’s film industry, including Hubert Ogunde and Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, whose timeless contributions, he said, continue to inspire generations.
