Mercy Aigbe’s Sister Allegedly Sets Their Mother’s House On Fire, Accuses Her Of Witchcraft

Mercy Aigbe

A 52-year-old lady simply known as Dr. Patience or Dr. Pat, the older sister to Nollywood actress, Mercy Aigbe has taken her anger against her mother to the extreme by burning down the house she lives in.

It was gathered that the bone of contention stems from Dr. Patience accusing their mother of being a witch and using her witchcraft activity against her to the advantage of her other popular daughter, Mercy.

She also accused the old woman of refusing to help her pay up a N800,000 loan she had taken and needed to pay up.

Dr. Pat allegedly set the house located at Adebayo Mokuolu street, opposite Anthony Village Recreation Centre in Lagos, on fire, badly destroying it as nothing could be salvaged, according to Glam and Essence magazine.

According to those living around the neighborhood, the house belongs to their mother’s late husband, who the old woman had only one child for, a son.

She was living in the mini duplex given to her son, (Dr. Pat’s half-brother) by his father. The building is detached from the main building which is in front and where other flats are located. The other flats which belong to the other children of the late man from his previous marriage were luckily not affected by the fire.

After burning the building, Dr. Pat reported herself to the police.

At the time she embarked on burning the house, their mother was said to be with Mercy, who later came to the house with her mother in a black SUV to assess the damage done to the house.

Before setting the house ablaze, Dr. Pat was heard shouting that she is the one that will kill their mother, confirming people’s suspicion that she had planned to burn the old woman in the house if she was in the house that morning.

Those in the area said she had been manifesting mental instability for a while, insisting that her mother is the one deterring her progress.

The children of the late man to who the old woman was married are now worried that Dr. Pat might come back to do worse to their father’s property if they don’t take any action against her quickly.

As things stand, Mercy’s mother doesn’t have a house to go back to, as the house is totally destroyed.

Earlier on Friday 30th September, residents had woken up to the noise and screams of Dr. Pat who went on a rampage, destroying her mum’s car.

Her mum who is battling arthritis remained indoors while her angry daughter called her names as she destroyed her car.

The old woman later came out after her daughter left to assess the damage she did to her car’s windscreen, wipers, and front and back lights.

It was with shock that many watched the obviously angry lady abuse her mother and shout destiny stealer at her as she destroyed the car. This perhaps explains why she wasn’t in the house when Dr. Pat returned to set the house ablaze as she had left the house to Mercy’s fearing her life is in danger.

Those in the know said Dr. Patience and Mercy are actually half-sisters, who share the same mother but different fathers, as their mother had children for several men.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated his Senior Special Assistant on Digital Engagement, Strategy and New Media, Mr Otega Ogra, on his election to the Executive Committee of the World Federation of Advertisers (WFA).

The election took place today at the organisation’s Annual General Meeting, held during the Global Marketing Week Conference in Stockholm, Sweden.

PRESIDENT TINUBU CONGRATULATES OTEGA OGRA ON ELECTION TO WORLD FEDERATION OF ADVERTISERS EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

President Tinubu described the development as a significant step for Nigeria’s growing influence in global communications.

He noted that Mr Ogra’s emergence as the only representative from West Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa on the Executive Committee reflects the depth of Nigerian expertise and the contribution of a new generation of young Nigerian professionals to global industry standards.

Mr Ogra was elected to the Executive Committee on the platform of the Advertisers Association of Nigeria (ADVAN), underscoring the role of Nigeria’s organised advertising and marketing industry in shaping representation at the global level.

The WFA is the leading global body for advertisers, representing over 150 multinational and Fortune 500 companies, alongside national advertiser associations across more than 60 countries, with a combined annual marketing spend running into hundreds of billions of dollars. Its Executive Committee is the organisation’s highest decision-making body, responsible for setting priorities and guiding global policy on responsible advertising, media transparency, sustainability, and the evolution of digital ecosystems.

President Tinubu noted that Mr Ogra’s election is both a personal distinction and a strategic opportunity for Nigeria and the African continent, placing them at the centre of global conversations on brand trust, platform accountability, innovation and the future of marketing and communications.

The President commended Mr Ogra, who also serves as Vice President of ADVAN, for his sustained contributions to strengthening Nigeria’s marketing and communications ecosystem, drawing on a career spanning leadership roles across the banking, manufacturing, and public sectors.

“Otega’s election reflects the growing recognition of Nigerian expertise and affirms our capacity to contribute meaningfully to the frameworks shaping global markets,” the President said.

President Tinubu added that the achievement aligns with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in advancing the creative economy, strengthening digital governance, and positioning Nigeria as a competitive hub for innovation and enterprise.

Josh Faulks, CEO of the Australian advertiser association (AANA), and Simon Michaelides, Director General of the UK advertiser association (ISBA), also join the leadership team.

Current members of the executive committee, David Wheldon, President and Philip Myers, Deputy President, who is also the Chief Institutional Affairs and Corporate Communications Officer at Ferrero, continue in their current roles, as do all regional vice presidents.
