NIGERIA'S REAL ESTATE MARKET: A SMART MOVE OR A RISKY GAMBLE FOR INVESTORS? BY Dennis Isong

Felix did his research and discovered that Nigeria’s population was rapidly expanding, and there was a shortage of housing to accommodate the growing population. He saw this as a huge opportunity to invest in real estate development in the country.

Without hesitation, Felix invested a significant portion of his savings into a real estate project in Nigeria. The project involved building new homes and apartments in a rapidly developing area of the country.

Despite some initial setbacks and challenges, Felix’s investment paid off in the long run. The demand for housing in Nigeria continued to increase, and the value of Felix’s properties appreciated significantly. He was able to sell some of the properties at a huge profit, while renting out the others for a steady stream of passive income.

Throughout the process, Felix had been very smart, doing proper due diligence, researching the market and builder reputation, which made sure his investment was in the right hands and well-informed.

Years later, as he looked back on his decision to invest in real estate in Nigeria, Felix couldn’t help but smile. He had not only made a significant financial return on his investment, but he had also played a small part in helping to meet the housing needs of the growing Nigerian population. And he never regreted his decision to invest in Nigerian real estate.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the current Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero will be officially dethroned from his position and make way for the reinstatement of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi who was also dethroned in 2020.

Earlier today, the Kano state house of assembly passed a new law which abolished four emirates created in addition to the Emir of Kano. The emirates were created under a controversial law in 2019 by the administration of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

According to a source, ‘’So certainly with the passage of the Bill, Sanusi automatically stands reinstated. No need for confirmation, the thing is to wait for the governor to assent to it.”

As it stands, all is needed is the governor’s assent to confirm the dethronement of Ado Bayero but already, congratulations are in line for Sanusi Lamido even from the political class.

Having said this, it appears the proposed dethronement of Ado Bayero as Emir of Kano was prophesied more than one year ago by Nigeria’s most popular prophet, Primate Elijah Ayodele.

In March 2023, a few days after the governorship election, though unrelated to the election outcome, Primate Ayodele warned traditional rulers to be prayerful and careful against dethronement. He mentioned some names and prominent among his mentions was the Emir of Kano whom he specially told to pray against gang-up.

These were his words

‘’Let’s pray against the dethronement of any oba or Emir in the north and the Emir of Kano needs to be very prayerful. A gang-up is coming against the Emir of Kano.’’

It would be recalled that in 2019, Primate Ayodele was the only prophet that warned the deposed Emir of Kano then, Sanusi Lamido to be watchful against removal in his 2020 prophecies. According to the prophet then, he mentioned that the governor wanted to limit the powers of the traditional ruler and part of the plot was to remove the then Emir.

‘’Let us pray not to lose two kings, Emirs, Ezes and of course let’s pray so that no King is dethroned. The government will want to reduce the strength of the Emir. They should pray against running into an unexpected crisis. Let us pay against fire outbreaks in any of the palaces. There will be confrontation between the government and the traditional ruler’’

While the decision to dethrone the current Emir and reinstate the former is in the hands of the governor, Primate Ayodele’s statement regarding a gang-up against Ado Bayero has been fulfilled with the house of assembly’s legislative activities.
