The. All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has described as “uninformed muckraking” a call by the People’s Democratic Party (Party) and its defeated candidate in the last governorship election over unsubstantiated allegations on LG fund.

In a statement issued in Abeokuta on Tuesday and signed, APC said “a sinking man in the sea who will jump at anything, including a straw, the PDP Ogun State has jumped into the fray of the current discussion on Local Government allocation in the state.

The statement reads: “One would have expected a serious party to make investigation and access credible data before commenting, but not surprisingly, the PDP and its defeated governorship candidate, Hon. Ladi Adebutu, who is currently a fugitive in UK, jumped into the fray with an opportunistic agenda asking for the “impeachment” of Governor Dapo Abiodun.

OGUN LG ALLOCATIONS: PDP’s UNINFORMED MUCKRAKING

“The state government has rightly made its position known on the issue and awaits due process of the law, especially when the character involved claimed to have written a petition to the relevant agencies of the federal government.

“ It is obvious that the PDP, whose government in Ogun State broke the records of maladministration and thuggery, assumes that Ogun people have forgotten and that the present government will be like theirs of ignoble past. A party that recently boasted of victory at the Tribunal, no longer wants to wait; it’s now singing a song of “impeachment”.

“We urge discerning people of Ogun State to ignore the machinations of these sore losers, and who were roundly rejected by Ogun people at the last general elections, despite the 200,000 preloaded Verve ATM cards used for vote buying.

“The remarkable feats of the current Administration is attested to by the good people of Ogun State and no amount of political gang-up, and propaganda will distract Prince Dapo Abiodun and his team.”

The full text of the Press statement is highlighted below:
LET YORUBA BREATH
The recent bullying and subtle threat issued to the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed forces of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by an elder statesman, Ambassador Tanko Yakassai has caught the attention of the Yoruba Commitment Forum and we need to appeal to the old man to take it easy on Yoruba matters. By our upbringing as Yoruba, we defer to age and tradition so much that ordinarily, we wouldn’t have loved to join issues with him but for the fact that Alhaji Yakassai has been around for so long and he knows so much, we would respectfully wish to ask him some questions begging for answers.

A. Was the North NOT the first to say that it was not interested in independence or being part of Nigeria? Didn’t the North call for ARABA later in the 60s?

B. In the Nigerian state, aren’t there diverse tribes and peoples plagued with religious, tribal and ancestral crisis?

C. Has there been unity in diversity where a section of the country seeks to overrun the other to dip the Koran into the Lagoon boasting of being born to rule always?

And the other time sir,did your boys NOT confirm to us that Nigeria is their inheritance gifted them by Uthman Dan Fodio their grand-father? Did they not invite their brothers all over the world to come over and invade Nigeria for them?

D. Is there any justice, equity and fairness in a section (North ) of Nigeria always making requests, getting more than required only to always block other sections from making requests at all?

E. Can call for a peaceful separation be equated with violent exit.Is peaceful separation not possible ? Is it about war?

F. Did USA not separate from Britain? Belgium from Netherlands, Singapore from Malaysia, Pakistan from India and many more of such separations without war? Back home in Africa, didn’t Sudan break into North and South Sudan in recent history? Our neighbours and brothers, Ghanaians even changed their colonial name of Gold Coast to Ghana for identification. What’s the fear, anxiety, fuss and mistrust about? Can’t there be free choice, freedom of association? Is it by force that we must be held together and by the jugular?

G. Baba Yakassai, are you happy with the multifaceted problems facing Nigeria leading to deaths and anguish of your children? Is this your dream for Nigeria Sir?

H. What harm do you foresee in Yorubaland separating peacefully from a non-productive and choking relationship in NIGERIA. Upon separation, will you NOT be the first elder to thank the younger generation for the mutual trust, harmony, peace and progress brought about in the separated sections for the benefits of all sir?

Finally, we firmly believe that civil and peaceful separation in Nigeria is a panacea to the many ills bedeviling this country as peace has eluded us as a nation since 1960. We call on Afenifere, Elders and Leaders of Yorubaland to close ranks and save our race ní tori wipe oun to ba s’oju eni kii tun s’eyin eni and Ile l’abo sinmi oko On this score, we reiterate our call for a free YORUBA NATION under a peaceful and constitutional arrangement while pledging our loyalty to the leadership of Prof Banji Akintoye/Sunday Igboho in our call for justice, equity and fairness.

Otunba Hon Tayo Onayemi, the Convener, Mrs Bukky Tunde Oshunrinde, Mrs Sola Maja, Dr Kayode Olunuga and Otunba Niyi Sodiya

Jimoh Ibrahim Asks Court To Nullify Ondo APC Governorship Primary

The Senator representing Ondo South, Jimoh Ibrahim, has approached a Federal High Court in Abuja, to seek the nullification of the primary election that produced Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, as the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate for the forthcoming election in Ondo State.

Ibrahim, in a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/588/2024, told the court that the April 20 primary election that produced Aiyedatiwa was marred with a lot of irregularities.

The senator, who participated in the primary election as a governorship aspirant, alleged that the primary was unlawful.

He claimed that Sections 221, and 228 of the 1999 Constitution and 84 of the Electoral Act 2022 were grossly violated in the conduct of the primary election.

He alleged that some delegates who could have voted for him at the primary election were not accredited to vote thereby making the primary election liable to be set aside and nullified.

He prayed the court to bar the Independent National Electoral Commission from accepting Aiyedatiwa as the APC governorship candidate in the November 16 gubernatorial election in the state.

He also sought an order of perpetual injunction prohibiting Aiyedatiwa from holding himself out or parading himself as the APC governorship candidate.

Ibrahim also asked the court to set aside the purported primary election and compel the APC to conduct a fresh one in compliance with Sections 221, and 228 of the 1999 Constitution and 84 of the Electoral Act 2022.

The senator prayed to the Federal High Court to delist the names of the APC and Aiyedatiwa from the political parties and candidates that would participate in the gubernatorial poll.

The plaintiff further requested that the APC and Aiyedatiwa be relieved of all rights except a fresh primary election is lawfully conducted to nominate a candidate for the governorship election.

At Wednesday’s proceedings, Ibrahim’s counsel, Chris Uche (SAN), moved an ex-parte application for an order of substituted service of the court process on Aiyedatiwa through any staff of the APC at the national secretariat in Abuja.

The request was granted by Justice Inyang Ekwo, who in a brief ruling, ordered that the process in the suit be served on the Ondo State governor through the APC.

He said, “Leave is granted the plaintiff/applicant to serve the originating summon and all other processes of this court in this suit on the second defendant by substituted means to wit; by delivery of same to any staff at the All Progressives Congress, national headquarters, at No: 40, Blantyre Street, Off Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent, Wuse 2, Abuja, being the political party of the second defendant.

“Service to be effected within two days of this order. Case adjourned till May 14, 2024, for mention.”

While Jimoh Ibrahim is the sole plaintiff in the suit, the APC, Aiyedatiwa and INEC are the first to third defendants respectively.

Aiyedatiwa was declared the winner of the primary election by the chairman of the election committee and the Governor of Kogi State, Usman Ododo.

Ododo while announcing Aiyedatiwa as the winner had said, “I can confirm that the direct mode of the primary election, adopted in the 2024 Ondo State governorship primary elections held in all 203 electoral wards, in all the 18 LGAs in Ondo State.”

The Ondo State governor won 16 of the 18 local government areas in the state by amassing 48,569 votes to beat his closest rival Mayowa Akinfolarin, who polled 15,343 votes in the election.

Olusola Oke got 14,865 votes which earned him the third position.
