Olugbo marks 70th birthday, explains why Ondo monarchs adopted Akeredolu

Published

The Prescribed authority of Ugbo Land and Chairman, Ondo State Council of Obas, Olugbo of Ugbo Kingdom, His Imperial Majesty , Oba Dr. Frederick Enitiolorunda Akinruntan has entered into the septuagenarian threshold of 70 years. The urbane and suave royal father who is aslo the Chairman of the Yoruba Obas Peace and Conflict Resolution Council (YPCRC) celebrated the birthday strictly among immediate closely knitted family members and few well-wishers at his palace at Ode Ugbo in strict compliance with the safety protocols of COVID 19.

Oba Akinruntan said he was grateful to God for the grace upon his life which has taken him this far , maintaining that God has been merciful to him and has made it possible for him to get to the three score ten threshold in robust good health. While appreciating the grace of God more, the revered Royal father said so many of his colleagues whom they had started the journey of life together are no more, hence the need for him to return all gratitude to God in all reverence and humility.

The Olugbo whose rein on the throne of his forefathers at Ode Ugbo has engendered peace and development in the coastal communities making up Ugbo Ilaje, in an exclusive chat at his classy and sophisticated palace, said since his return home in 2009 to become the Olugbo of Ugbo, great things have been happening in the kingdom and assuring his subjects, the oil magnate and successful entrepreneur and captain of industry turned Royal Father said his kingdom is about to witness more infrastructural development and amazing turn around.

Taking advantage of the internet zoom platform of cross boundary audio visual communication, Oba Olugbo’s kith and kin in the Diaspora engaged him and prayed God to grant him more of good health and long life.

In a lighter mood of the celebration, the Paramount ruler of Ugbo Kingdom was prodded by this reporter over the reason behind the adoption of the Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu for a second term by Ondo State Council of Obas and Oba Akinruntan said the reason was not far fetched.

Olugbo maintained that Ondo Monarchs resolved after a thorough deliberation to adopt the incumbent for a second term because the winning team is not changed half way into an exciting match. He noted that the Obas who are the representatives of diverse communities making up Ondo State are not unmindful of the great strides of the Governor in the area of infrastructural development of the state and they want this good job to continue. You will recall that the Obas have a council and I only presided as the Chair of the council, so what we did was a concessus agreement to adopt Akeredolu and that was why you saw myself and Olowo raising up his hand in the group photograph, Olugbo said.

When he was asked if he didn’t think the Obas adoption could give the incumbent an undue advantage over other contestants, Oba Akinruntan said Akeredolu already had edge over all the other contestants because he took his time to acquit himself creditably well in his first term that is gradually rounding off, advising that other contestants should calmly hold on until he rounds off his second tour of duty four years from now.

Olugbo added that because it’s an election in a Democracy and not a selection process Governor Akeredolu must have keen competitors but on the bases of his commendable performance so far he stands shoulder high and above his contestants as far as the APC primary election and the October 10th governorship poll is concerned in Ondo State.

How Deji Adeyanju Secured The Release Of Speed Darlington

Detained Nigerian Singer Speed Darlington Released On Bail After Burna Boy’s Petition Alleging Cyberbullying

The Nigerian police have released singer, comedian and content creator, Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, on bail.

Darlington was arrested and detained following a petition from fellow musician, Damini Ogulu, better known as Burna Boy, alleging cyberstalking.

The controversial Akpi musician was released to lawyer Deji Adeyanju after meeting conditions stipulated by police at the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team’s Department in the Guzape area of Abuja.

SaharaReporters learnt on Tuesday that Speed Darlington was arrested last Friday.

Adeyanju earlier on Tuesday told SaharaReporters that he had seen the petition written against Darlington by afrobeat musician, Burna Boy

Speed Darlington was arrested in Lagos and taken to various formations in the state before he was taken to Abuja and detained by the IRT team, which accused him of cyberstalking Burna Boy.

Adeyanju noted that there was nothing in the petition to warrant Darlington’s arrest.

“I have met Speed Darlington and he’s in good spirits, we are working to get him released on bail as soon as possible,” Adeyanju told SaharaReporters earlier on Tuesday.

A police ACP investigating the case told Adeyanju that the police could not release a copy of the petition to him but allowed the lawyer read and digest the content.

Primeboy threatens legal action against Mohbad’s mother

Primeboy threatens legal action against Mohbad’s mother

Owodunni Ibrahim aka Primeboy, who is a close associate of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba aka Mohbad,  has countered the claims of the deceased’s mother, Abosede Adeyemo-Aloba, on what transpired between him and her son.

According to Primeboy, Mohbad’s mother accused him of having an altercation with Mohbad while he was alive during an online interview.

In a statement signed by his lawyer, Akinpelu Ogunbona, and seen by PUNCH Metro on Saturday, Primeboy quoted Mohbad’s mother as saying that he consistently complained about Mohbad’s neglect since he rose to stardom.

“In the said interview, you alleged that our client always fought the late Mohbad and consistently complained about his neglect by the late Mohbad since the said late Mohbad rose to stardom. You also alleged that our client was advised to run away after the death of the late Mohbad so as not to be suspected regarding the death,” the statement read in part.

While describing her submission as a defamation of character,  the singer alleged that her actions were deliberate.

He added that this had affected the love he enjoyed from his fans.

“Your actions are deliberate to injure and traduce the integrity of our client who is a rising star in the music industry and your allegations in the interview have greatly and negatively impacted the affection and love being enjoyed by our client from his fans and well-wishers around the world,” the statement added.

Primeboy however requested Mohbad’s mother to retract her statement within seven days.

He also threatened to take legal action should he fail to do so.

Efforts to reach Mohbad’s mother for a reaction proved abortive as calls made to her phone were not responded to as of Sunday evening. A text message sent to her had yet to be responded to as of the time this report was filed.

In August, Ogunbona argued the application on behalf of Ibrahim Owodunni aka Primeboy, stating that there were new issues both Wunmi Aloba and the police needed to shed light upon to give a clearer picture of what killed the singer.

According to the statement, their request to be called by the counsel was to make clear some ambiguous statements regarding the fight the singer’s wife alleged happened in the house.

The coroner accordingly adjourned for the order to be complied with and the witnesses to be brought to court on the next adjourned date.

Mohbad died at the age of 27, on September 12, 2023, with circumstances surrounding his death sparking controversies on social media.

His death also led to the arrest of Naira Marley and controversial Lagos socialite, Balogun Eletu, also known as Sam Larry, amongst others.

The singer’s body was on September 21, 2023, exhumed for autopsy to unravel the cause of his death.
