Kwara South Leaders Rally Behind Dankaka’s 2027 Senate Bid
Kwara South Leaders Rally Behind Dankaka’s 2027 Senate Bid
A broad coalition of political stakeholders in Kwara South Senatorial District has thrown its weight behind Dr. Muheebah Dankaka, OON, ahead of the 2027 National Assembly elections, in what observers describe as a significant early show of political alignment in the district.
The endorsement followed a large declaration rally attended by party officials, local government representatives, traditional rulers, youth and women groups, as well as community leaders drawn from across the six local government areas in the district—Oyun, Ifelodun, Oke-Ero, Isin, Irepodun, and Ekiti, including Offa.
Participants at the gathering described the move as a “consensus-driven decision,” citing Dankaka’s track record in public service and her previous role as Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission, where she oversaw federal appointments and representation.
Speakers at the event emphasized the need for inclusive representation, with several highlighting the importance of increased female participation in national politics. Supporters also pointed to Dankaka’s administrative experience and familiarity with grassroots issues as key factors behind the endorsement.
“This is beyond politics; it is about competence, representation, and continuity of service,” one party stakeholder said during the event.
Dr. Dankaka, in her remarks, expressed appreciation for the support and reaffirmed her commitment to the development of Kwara South. She pledged to prioritize accessibility, accountability, and policies aimed at improving the welfare of constituents if elected.
Political analysts note that while the endorsement signals early momentum, the race for the Kwara South senatorial seat is still in its formative stage, with party primaries and broader electoral dynamics expected to shape the final outcome.
The 2027 general elections are anticipated to intensify political activities across the country, with key regions such as Kwara South already witnessing strategic mobilization by aspirants and their supporters.

Zamfara APC Congress: Gov. Lawal Declares Strong Political Base Key to Government Strength
Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has declared that the effectiveness of any administration is directly dependent on the strength and unity of its political foundation.
The Governor made the statement on Saturday while participating in the All Progressives Congress (APC) state congress held at the Trade Fair ground in Gusau. According to a press release from his spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the event saw 745 delegates from 147 wards across the state’s 14 local government areas elect a new State Executive Committee via consensus.
The process was overseen by a congress committee led by Kaduna State Deputy Governor, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, who affirmed the newly elected Chairman and other party officials.
In his remarks, Governor Lawal described the congress as both timely and strategic, calling it a defining moment for consolidating the party’s structures and strengthening internal democracy.
“Today’s process—culminating in the election, affirmation, and swearing-in of new State Executives—is a critical exercise that reinforces the credibility, transparency, and legitimacy of our party at the grassroots and state levels,” Lawal said.
He expressed gratitude to the national APC leadership for their guidance and specifically thanked the congress committee, led by Dr. Balarabe, for their professionalism and integrity.
“Today is about renewing commitment to our party’s ideals: unity, discipline, inclusiveness, and service,” the Governor added. “We know a government’s strength depends on its political base. A united, disciplined party offers a solid platform for governance and growth.”

He expressed confidence that the newly elected leaders would serve with integrity and purpose, urging them to view their positions as a call to service, responsibility, and accountability.

The leading governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, has congratulated party members nationwide following what he described as a decisive constitutional intervention by the Board of Trustees (BoT) to stabilise the party after the recent Supreme Court judgment.
In a statement issued on Friday, Ajadi endorsed the BoT’s assumption of leadership, describing it as a timely move to avert a leadership vacuum and reposition the party for unity, peace, and electoral competitiveness ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He said the development presents an opportunity for stakeholders within the PDP to set aside personal and factional interests and embrace reconciliation in the overall interest of the party and the country.
“I sincerely congratulate all members of our great party at this critical moment. The decision of the Board of Trustees to assume constitutional leadership is not only timely but necessary to stabilise the party and restore confidence among members nationwide,” he said.
Ajadi called on aggrieved stakeholders to respect the BoT’s position and support its efforts to convene an emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, which is expected to facilitate the emergence of an interim National Working Committee (NWC).
He stressed that the immediate priority should be the establishment of a credible and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)-recognised party structure capable of fielding candidates in all elective positions in 2027.
“What matters now is unity of purpose. The BoT must be fully supported to carry out its constitutional responsibilities, including the constitution of the NEC and an interim National Working Committee that will ensure the PDP is fully prepared and compliant with electoral requirements,” he added.
The Oyo governorship hopeful also urged party leaders, governors, lawmakers, youth and women groups, as well as state chapters, to rally behind the reconciliation process.
According to him, the PDP must learn from its internal challenges and emerge stronger, more united, and focused on delivering democratic dividends.
“The PDP belongs to all of us. This is the time to sheathe swords, embrace dialogue, and rebuild trust. Our strength lies in unity, and only a united PDP can win and govern effectively in 2027,” he said.
Ajadi further commended party members who remained loyal during the period of internal crisis, expressing optimism that the BoT’s intervention would usher in lasting peace and stability within the party.
